Going to pick up a new project in the next couple of weeks. A 69 Barracuda Formula S 383 car. I want to install 15" old style Cragars with BF Goodrich T/A tires all around. I talked with a guy at Newstalgia auto last week and he mentioned guys have complained about fender to tire clearance up front on these cars. I wanted 215 70 15's but he suggested 65's instead of 70's. Can anyone elaborate. I'm thinking of buying the whole tire, wheel package from them ready to bolt on but it won't be good to get the fronts on and not clear turn wise. Car has drums up front.

Thanks.

I have a 67 notch I'm running 15 inch cragers with 235/60/15 up front and have never rubbed.

215 65r15 on 15x6 with 3.75 off set worked fine on my 68 barracuda

I have 15x7 Cragers up front with BFG 235x60's up front with no rubbing, and 15x8 with 255x60 BFG's in the rear.

You've got to compare apples to apples.

What is the backspacing of the rims the people above have mentioned?

I've put 235/60/15 up front with 15x7 4.25" backspace rims and it was very very close on the bottom front fender lip.

There have been people here that have run 225/60/15 with 15x7 4.25" backspace rims and had bad rubbing while backing out of driveway and turning.

Alignment, thickness of rear strut bushing, past collision damage, and small bolt pattern vs large bolt pattern are the major things that will effect that last little bit of clearance.

My Crager's have 4.25 BS, small bolt pattern, and stock front suspension with manual steering (not sure if power steering would make a difference, but thought I'd add that). Tires are close to the lip, but have never rubbed.

The 15X6 Cragar back spacing is 3.375. Mine are small bolt 5X4. Stock front suspension with power steering. Sounds like I should be OK with 60's or 65's.

Yeah. A 215/70-15 is a very tall tire -- I can't see that fitting. A 215/70-14 is already bigger than the factory tire size.

Your right. I didn't realize that with a 70. I think D70-14's is what it came with new.

205 70 15 on 6" prostars . all kinds of clearance--

On my 68 a couple of years ago, 205 70 14's where close to rubbing but it had been converted from drum to disc brakes from an early Duster. At least this 69 still has its stock stuff in the front.

Didn't the 69 383 S cars come standard with disk up front?

The S cars were Ss cuz they came standard with sales code A53.

Part of A53 was Rallye Suspension(code S13; for which I have no description).
A53 does not list a brake option.
The few A53 cars I have seen, and the couple I've had, had KH 4 piston calipers and discs, which would have been code B41/manual, or B51 with a booster.
The codes would have been indicated on the broadcast sheet.

Cudas were S cars with 4-speeds, simulated hood scoops, and different nameplates. Basically. They carried sales codes A56 for 340s, and A57 for 383s

I became 3rd owner of a low-mileage 69 Cuda, back in the late 70s. It had 10" drums all around, which matched the B-sheet.

That's what my car has. 10 inch drums all around. Of all the B and E body cars I've had, I've never owned a power front drum car like this. They've all been disc up front. I know this car has its original brake system on it.

Got my 215 65/15's on the front with the Cragars. They look great and no rub.
