They're pretty pricey. Checked out Jeg's and for two 2,5" electric ones, you pay $400 or so. They have a few to choose from.

Why not do block off plates like the max wedge cars used? True, kind of a hassle removing the covers but a lot cheaper! :D

Don! That is what I'm thinking of too! For the times I'm going to drive with open headers per summer can be counted on my two hands. But if there will be a change I will take it from there.

Contined today to disassemble the engine bay. I really lilke when I'm the first who does it since it was built.

Ulf! I think I know the feeling! It looks like there were never any suspension parts replaced and the interior and body was all original. the engine compartment, interior and body will not remain that way! The suspension came apart so easy!

I wish that every car you dis-assemble was that way. It makes Life so much easier.

Re the headers I did some more measuring and I'm almost sure that Djakken was right. Spitfire headers is the way to go.

'I'm not sure but does anyone know what manufacturers that did headers for early A:s except fenderwell headers? What I know of is only Doug Thorley and Spitfire. Hope fpor any help!

Thanks FABO!:glasses7:

Here is an alternative: Hooker Super Competition Headers 5208HKR
Summit has them, only $640 + shipping.

A very good friend is offering me a set of Spitfire headers. They don't look mid sixties but my plan was to extend the pipe to the lenght of ordinary headers and making a new flange with block off plates. From there I can make the cut-out for the 2,5" exhaust system.

While continuing dis-assemble the car I found a neat thing.

When the first owner bought the car at Reedmans in Langhorne, PA he just drove the car to New York. When it arrived to Sweden customs placed at seal at the steering column. After the toll and import duties were paid customs shold take ofg the seal. But no, it's still there! Cool!

Wow Reedmans Dodge in Langhorn PA. Never thought I'd hear about a little 65 dart in Sweden being bought all the way in pennsylvania especially from a dealer i know of. Its truly a small world. I used to live in New Jersey, my nephew purchased a 3/4 ton 4 door 4x4 dodge pickup truck chassis cab with dump body from them a couple years back for his landscaping business.

Wow Ulf, a new build. I will be checking it out. Great find on the dart. I noticed it had shoulder belts. Was that something that had to be added when the car came into Sweden to be legal?

Matt

Volvo was the first car company to introduce the three point seat belt in a production car in 1959. It was invented in the USA in 1951. Volvo improved the trans tunnel mount and got that part of the invention patented but the invention itself was already patented in the US.

Seat belts in the front seats were only required by law in new cars from model year 1970 (rear seats from 1971) so they were likely added later. It became obligatory to USE seat belts in the front seats in 1975 (rear not until seats in 1986).

But Ulf may know a lot more about this than Wikipedia does. :D

The Swedish importer ANA was in front of the safety tecnique. Due to Volvos advanced (at the day) safety features in their cars ANA wanted the Mopars imported to Sweden to be in the front of safety.

That's why ANA mounted Klippan seat belts on almost every Mopar sold new in Sweden. Since this car was sold in US and imported by a private person he asked a Dodge dealer in Sweden to mount the same seat belts as the Swedish sold cars had.

I would leave the tag on; what are you going to do?

Don! I will dis-assemble the steering column and take off the tag and put it on the next steering column I'm adding.

Part of the cars history! :glasses7:

Mark! The ANA sold cars could be ordered without seat belts. No many but it was possible. I have had some one owner cars and at least three of them didn't come with seat belts. But in mid sixties there wasn't a big issue driving around in Sweden without seat belts. But the safety features did increase in US cars sold here in Sweden.

I didnt know 3 point belts were being tested in 1951. I know seat belts were optional in the US until i think 1964. Then lap belts became mandatory. My 66 coronet had factory lap belts. In 1968 3 point harnesses became mandatory. Mopars 3 point setup in 68 was pretty hokey. Such an afterthought nobody used them. These required you to buckle in the lap belt, then buckle the shoulder belt into a spot onto the lap belt. Still interesting history lesson. Volvo was always pushing safety it seems.

Today I recieved the steering column. All in pieces!! :banghead: So making it in one unit will be a challenge.

I also found the brake pedal for automatic transmission incl bracket and all. Can I just swap the pedal or do I need to change the whole setup!

If you need the complete automatic brake pedal assembly, I have the one from my 65 Dart convertible. It's already painted and ready to go.

In case you didn't see it in my longroof thread, your NOS camshaft/and lifters and the motor mounts will go out today in Anders' package. More pieces of the puzzle falling in place!

Ah, I'm looking forward to get all the pieces. Thanks Don for the offer. I already have a setup but I'm not sure if I need to change the whole assembly?

The front end is getting better and better.

If you mean can you just swap the brake pedal, I would think so but you know how they did things back the day! I'll compare my automatic one with my brake/clutch assembly.

Too bad you have your steering box ready to go! Is it the 24 to 1 box? I have a 20 to 1 steering sector that would be perfect for it!

Don! I'm not sure but I will found out. Will do some painting so it looks like new. Today I found the cover that goes around the steering column. They didn' t have that hole for the clutch rod! Some paint and it will look new. I enen got the firewall gasket kit from DMT.

But the steering column will be a story.........

On the Dart GT I parted out, I sent my steering column plate without clutch hole to Leanna who powder coated it in shiny black but can't use it since I'm going 4 speed. Luckily, I have another plate with the clutch hole but it needs media blasting and painting (or send it to Leanna :D )

Since you didn't disassemble it . . . . :banghead: I have faith in you that it will go together correctly!

Thanks Don! I'll keep the result posted!

Today I was fortunate to find an air condition water pump. There are two different styles. With or without air condition. The air condition water pump had a different impeller with lower resistent but higher flow of water. The impeller was made in plastic or bakelit. Now I need to find a set to restore the pump.

Does any FABO member knows of someone selling those kits?
