I recently purchased the original owner 69 swinger. They claim the headers on the car were original equipment. I have never seen or heard of this. This car has sat since 1973 due to the husband being killed in Vietnam. Is this possible or even a dealer installed item? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No such thing.
The car would have come with the 340 HiPo manifolds.
Somebody did a "day 2" swap.

Wouldn't it be possible for it to be a dealer installed as a part from the Mopar performance parts catalog? After all, dealers did come cool things back then, like Mr. Norm's. It might help to know the dealer where the car was purchased at.

The 340 swinger I have had the manifolds changed to fender well when brand new. But no such things as factory headers on an A-body...other than a factory hemi super stock.

Under chassis headers for those cars did not exists when they were new.

^^^Disagreement, here ... My buddy bought one year used 67 273 /833 off of the local Chrysler lot in '68 .. A ton of gear, head work, some unknown NAPA hydraulic grind camshaft ( Mellings?),ran high 13's in '68 at the local drag strip. He installed headers,( need to ask, what brand..) ,there were no cut outs for fenderwells., when I first saw the car. He stated" Cherry Bomb glasspacks, headers , and tail pipe at the axle, no turn downs.." Seen the car,the guy technically is still the registered owner from '68...READ: NO FENDERWELL MODIFICATION..

From the factory...probably not....

From the Dealer....could be...

They were likely installed at the dealership,

The Hustle Catalog recommended changing to a LD-340, Hooker headers, and 3310 Holley, IIRC all had a Mopar Part#s, and were avail over the Dealer Parts counter.

At the dealership I installed a few "Hustle" items, before delivery to the customer,, and Mopar warrantied these changes..

I installed them on my own car upon purchasing it new. (1969)

I still have the Manifold and carb, the headers (under-chassis) wore out.

A guy local to me has a 71 340 4spd demon and he had headers put on when new. He said they are doug thorly. Which yours kind of look like.

As for the fender well headers, the picture in my profile is a 69 Dart 340 that I now own. Its a one family owned car. The car was bought new in Sedalia, MO at Bryant Motors, which is still in business. The owner had the headers installed within 2 weeks of buying. Fenderwell, which was part of the Hustle stuff package (i think actually made by Crager and were painted blue when new). The owner was killed about a month after buying the car and his dad kept it and owned it ever since. I bought the car last year.
