Can you install a shorter A body 833 into a 71-74 B-Body?
The shifter has been sorted out enough to work.

It could be done , luckily the trans mount is in the right place , but by the time you do the rest of the required Rube Goldberg bs to make it work ... plus buy/make a longer driveshaft ... you could have bought the right trans.
The transmission crossmember is already cut to fit now (as of this evening), floor pans cut up anyways to be replaced, did not have to touch the torsion bar crossmember.
Isn't the A/F body trans the same length as the 904 auyomatic it replaced?
