How rare is a 68 GSS?

-
That's cool stuff.

I'd like to assemble the model, yet I don't want to open it.

Hi everybody

48 Dart GSS have been made. 26 where sold at Grand Spaulding Dodge by Mr. Norm himself. 22 where handoverd to other Dodge Dealer in the US.

Starting in August 1967, Dodge offered 16 standard colors for the Dart. One color was an option color (buffed silver AA1).

From the 48 GSS at least one was painted in the standard color. Most of the GSS where painted in green and blue. From the option color (buffed silver AA1) only two GSS where sold. One does still exist!

Today only 12 are known to exists, unfortunately I only know 10 of them.

4 x Racing Green (GG1)
2 x Yellow (SS1)
1 x Black (BB1)
1 x Burgundy (RR1)
1 x Buffed Silver (AA1)
1 x Medium Gold (JJ1)

Myself I am member of the Grand Spaulding Dodge Club since more than 10 years and since 13 years I drive a clone white (WW1) 1968 Dart GSS and I had several times the opportunity to met Mr. Norm himself personally. A very nice man!!

I would like to know how they got the heater blower motor to fit with the RB 440. Mine hits!

It does, has since I put engine in the car. 67 dart. 440. I am going to go through again soon to try to resolve a few issues. Like headers fitting. and the blower hitting the valve cover. I just need to finish my 66 first.

my 67 GTS came with special valve covers that were shaped to miss the blower motor

AhaHa! Did not know they existed! Something to look for. can you post a picture of this ? Thanks.

don't think I have a pic. I do think I still have them but know that I want to sell them

Here's what I REALLY REALLY do not understand. The 66-7 B bodies were well underway with the 440, and of course 383. The 67 A was a complete re-design from 66, earlier, and Ma DID put a factory 383 into the 67 A although "marginal." Poor manifolds, etc. WHY did they not spend a bit more time on the base design and figure "in" the HP 440 and decent manifolds right out of the chute?

Because, most of the time, the model designs are started years in advance. I know, it's not like they weren't building the B/RB engines from '58 on.

Gotta take in mind, too, that the engineers don't have the final say in production, either. Bean counters get involved, too.

Prob a clone,, but very, very nice

with a 440 in it do you really need a heater blower motor ?

when I put Vintage air in mine I eliminated to blower motor and put a plate over the hole

I have a copy of the Chrysler order for the "48" GSS Darts, and there were two more made. All of them went to Grand Spaulding, though he did have an agreement with a dealership in Colorado and California so some might have gone to those dealers. The 6 NHRA cars were not GSS's, they were built seperately. I currently know of 14 68 GSS's and have one myself. The Gold one above is the first one built of the continuation series from Blue Moon Motorsports out of Orlando, Florida and they built just a handfull of them before going out of business. I saw the aqua (KK1 Turquoise) with the white top sitting in a field in downtown Chicago in the 90's and went back to get it but it was gone. It went up to the Green Bay, Wisconsin area and was supposedly restored but I have not seen it again. The majority of the GSS's were yellow, but I have seen dark blue, maroon, silver, black, red, gold, and turquoise. They were all automatics and had 67 383 A-Body exhaust manifolds until Iggy built under chassis headers for them as stated above. Norm never put fenderwell headers on them, they were put on afterwards.

Hello HemiSSDart

You wrote that two more Dart GSSs were build. So infact 50 GSSs were sold. How it comes, that since years everybody talks about 48 cars. Also you wrote that you have a copy of the Chrysler order for the "48" GSS Darts plus two more.

I am very interested to know all Colors. I guess many from us Dart Drivers, would like to know more about the GSSs.

Thank you

Kind regards

Roby

The GTS 383 (GSS 440) were not pulled from the line on December 7th, 1967, but on December 10th, 1967.

I think that November 19th, 1967 is correct, as the third GTS 383 (GSS 440) is dated November 20th, 1967.

Maybe someone else has more details...

Hey HemiSSDart, that car was by the Ampitheatre and it went to my house. Then it made it's way to Green Bay,WI.

I met Mr. Norm at a Mopar Show in Hughesville, Pa., this past summer. - He seems like a nice / modest Guy. -- Easy to converse with. -- I saw the resemblance to the picture posted by -- davescuda on page 1.
