A local man I came to know of has a Dana 60 for sale.

He says its a B-body unit from a 68 or 9 charger but doesn't remember exactly.

This would make a nice fit in my coronet if its what we think it is.

Are there numbers anywhere on the rear end?? is there anything I should take notice of??

well I would start with the usual measurements such as total width , bolt pattern, perch placement and distance apart. make sure it is in fact a dana 60 and not something out of jeep like a dana 44 or 35. cant help you with any numbers without searching around.

The b body axles will have the mounting boss for pinion
snubber. Converted truck Dana's do not.

Numbers can be found stamped on the rear of the right axle tube close to center section.
These shown in photo translate to 70-71 E-body.

Rani...unless you're going to run a supercharged HEMI with slicks on the track, or buy it and flip it, I wouldn't bother. They're HEAVY and take a lot of power to turn, but on the bright side, are worth big bucks to B-body original HEMI and 440+6/4spd car owners.

well I was just doing it to go for the "GHUSTO" on my build ....I am putting together a 440/4speed 68 coronet so it just seems like going for the ultimate by putting a DANA in it and adding torque boxes and subframe connectors and 11 inch clutch.

its just a street car but why not go to the max .....probably the only chance I will get in whole life to put together a totally badass set up. LOL

I am even considering saving and buying a new DANA ....strange/ moser unit out of Denver like my friend did.

If she wants to run a Dana, it's her choice... (It will take her longer to break it that way...)

I think it would be cool for a station wagon to have a 440 4 speed with a Dana.... (the ultimate soccer mom car....)

My ex wife loved those big station wagons...

Bullsh*t, put the Dana in it!

the 69 coronet is where I would put it for sure. frame connectors and torque boxes needed! I had a 69 coronet rt 440 4 speed. the frame was t wisted from all that torque and the 4 banger.

yep, indestructible, and heavy for sure. for very cool;! be the invy of the block ( section).

Strange = $2000+
Make one = $1000+
8 3/4 might be good for the street, but put some slicks on in and go to the dragstrip - not so much...
ask me how I know :D (see "budget dana 60" on racer part of this forum)

Powerlok carriers are better than their tracklok version. Powerlock are the two piece rebuildable version.

That is just beautiful ......I can almost smell the 90 weight through the pic.

90 Weight has an underappreciated aroma. Seems to be kinda strong in an enclosed garage. But its gorgeous when clean and on something like Dana gears.

I picked that one up on Craigslist for $100 with an extra 4.10 ring and pinion thrown in. Then I proceeded to put another $800 or so in it with bearings / Moser axles / new brakes and such, but it is what it is when you are planning to
:burnout:

That's kinda funny. It does to me too. Sorta like a dog sniffing chewing tobacco, he shakes his head and backs off yet keeps coming back. An alluring pungency.

I'll never go back.

I went to look at the mystery dana in question and I really think its a no go.

It doesn't look right and looks to be in poor to fair condition.

so I came home and started looking around on the web and I see Moser makes a pretty good unit new. I think around 2500. bucks worth the awesomeness which is out of budget now but it is a good goal to shoot for.

I really think I am going to set a new DANA as a goal. Might take a few months to get there but time flies anyways. That is really not a lot of money in the big scheme of things but to come up with it all in one sitting is kinda "ouch" but I have done crazier things before.

I am petty convinced I need one now. Then it will free up an 8 3/4 for the duster :D

Anyone know the difference between a

"True Loc posi- 35 spline" $175.

and a

"Truetrac 35 spline" $545.00

What's the difference other than 370 bucks??

With a strong 440 and a 4 speed a Dana is a good choice . A friend with a 440 6 pac 4 speed Charger has melted a few 8 3/4 , 440 6 pacs came with Danas for a good reason .
Going to be a real nice car , like high perf wagons . Saw a nice 1963 Impala wagon , 409 with a 4 speed , I think your wagon is in the same category of cool wit the 440 , 4 speed and Dana .
If I had the extra cash a wagon or 3 would be in my collection .

They are a little heavier, but supposedly take less to spin than an 8 3/4. I don't regret putting one in my Duster.

A new moser S60 is a pricey piece but you will only have to buy it once! She will outlast the rest of the car

3200 including oil to my door if I remember right.

Weighs the same as an 8.75. tru trac diff. 4.56 gears. Powdercoated. willwood discs. special yoke. cast cover. etc
