Does anyone know of a good small block parts interchange book? Thanks

I have a 68-74 book, it's out of production but if you tell me what your looking for I'll look it up.

All small block parts interchange except;

'64-'65 intake manifolds will not swap with any others
1.88 and larger intake valves will not fit into the 273's bore
Pistons of course
The 360 crank can only be used in a 360 unless machined down to fit the smaller journals of the other engines.
Balancers; 360's have there own. '73 - 340's have there own, both external. All others are internal. Same with flywheels and converters.
The 360 has its own oil pan, the rest swap.

Anybody else this morning want to add something? LMAO

Thanks, for all the responses. I am looking at purchasing a 66 GT DART 4 Speed car and just trying to get a heads up....

Late and early timing covers / water pumps.........You can put late water pump timing cover in an earlier car the lower outlets are different as are the timing marks. That can be a gotcha

The late TBI 'junkyard' LA engines don't have a fuel pump mount on the timing cover

Neither do magnums, and the magnum pan setup is different, confused? I believe the magnums all use a 360 pan. These are recognized by the SMALLER rear 'half mood" cutout. The LA 273--318--340 pans have the "big" cutouts, same size, front and rear.

If you buy an engine, it's "likely" from a truck or van, meaning you need different engine brackets, exhaust manifolds, pan and pickup.

It's pretty difficult to list all the differences. I had early 273 adjustable rockers on a much later model 360. You cannot run LA rockers on a magnum, but you CAN run mag heads on an LA. You can NOT run LA heads on a magnum. The list goes on.

Pretty much everything can be made to fit from one engine to another.

The LA engine family (273,318,340,360) can be divided in 2 ways by heads or cranks. 273/318 has small port heads and a slightly different drivers mount than 340/360 which have the large port heads. In 1967 when the 318 was introduced it was identical to the 67' 273 other than bore size and very little change until roller cammed 318 around 85' and Magnums later.

The other way to divide them is 273,318,340 are the same main bearing and crank stroke of 3.31". And there bore sizes 3.625",3.91" and 4.04". And 360 has a larger main bearing and a 3.58" stroke and has a 4" bore.

How to build Chrysler engines by Frank Adkins SA design is the publisher ISBN 1-884089-54-2. I would check ebay and Amazon for a copy.
