My car is a '73 Dart Sport with a Magnum swap and power steering...likely swapping over to manual steering eventually but not before the headers. I assume they will fit either configuration.

Looks like I can get a set of Hooker Competition (coated) for about $450 where the Doug's coated are $650???

Any reason to go with Doug's? It sounds like they might be a better fit.

Is there another option that I should consider? Price is a serious consideration...but I'd rather not have to replace these again too soon so the coated ones are preferable.

Thanks for any tips.

keep an eye out for the autozone coupon
I think it brings the coated dougs headers down to the 530 range

I have dougs in my 71 duster (LA motor, with power steering) and they fit fine
the only issue I had was steering linkage interference which was most likely caused by a sagging motor mount

I haven't tried the hookers, but it seems to be "common knowledge" that dougs give you the best ground clearance

The hookers I had have one tube below the center link, real low. Bought the dougs through autozone on the 20% discount. $502 to my door for the ceramic coated. I think they have a 20% coupon right now.

Thanks (and "Thanks") to both of you guys!

I found the coupon code and ordered them up!

Are you going from a /6 to the magnum? If so I would love to know how they fit with /6 k-frame and if you used Schumacher mounts. Thanks.

I'm running dougs in a /6 frame with home made engine mounts
(maybe a modified truck mount, I'm not sure)
they fit just fine
a little tight on the steering box side, but not rubbing
it was rubbing on the steering linkage, but a small shim under the passenger side mount fixed that (which may have been more of a mount issue then an exhaust issue)

Looks like diymirage was able to provide some insight...which is good because mine was a 318 so I couldn't help there. :)

Schumacher mounts and a 2000 5.9 here. I used the Summit brand headers with the Milidon 7qt oil pan. Bead blasted the stock paint off the headers and sprayed them with VHT high temp paint. They look great, seal perfect and fit very well. They were well under $200 including blasting and repainting.

I used the Summit dual exhaust kit, made my own crossover, added oval megaphone tips and later swapped in Hooker Aero Chambers. The entire exhaust from headers to tips was around $500, and sounds awesome.

Those headers have the tube that drops below the steering linkage?
