Corrected Horsepower Factors > 340 ~ 360 ~ 383 ~ 400 ~ 426-S ~ 440

i did read a Dulchic test on a 340 built to stock specs including original carb
...it produced 281 hp.and they claimed the original carb was not working correctly.
Then added a bigger (800?)carb and it jumped up to a bit over 300.
..it seems a sharply tuned 340 could indeed hit 300
adding the thermoquad should show a nice gain over the stock small AVS.
those numbers are probably very close...i love these posts

I remember when Dulcich had a monthly column in Mopar Muscle. I used to love the comparison tests and sleeper combos he did. One thing I remember is that the 340 seemed to love bigger carbs. Throw the carb size calculations out the window and run a T-quad.

I always said the 1971 340 may have been the best in an A-body. It still had the high compression and an 880 cfm carb when needed. The AAR T/A may be rated higher but they were in a heavier E-body. My best friend Rick ordered a 1972 (first year for low compression) 340 Duster, 4 speed and 3.23 SG. We took it to the track in the spring when it was new and it ran a 14.51 on its only run.
