Black steelies and drag radial look?

You know... I had never even considered this look. But now that I'm looking at it, I get it. It's the street race or 'just came back from the track' look. I love it! I may have to do that too! And your car's stance is perfect IMO
 
OK, I'll be the bad-guy. I'm not a fan.
If it was a deeper dish, it might be easier on my eyes. Like a 10 in rim with a 4 to 4.5 backspace. But then I'd like a 15 x 8 up front, to match.
You know; the stock-car look. Kinda like mine, heehee

Your not the only bad guy:D. I actually agree with you with the deeper dish rims on the back.
 
We drove around like this with our car this year it's not eh a body but I think it doesn't look too bad.

opinions are like a$$----s... with that said, I am going say this... nice car! (I know, WAY out on a limb there huh?) I too think it is too close to the rear wheel well lip - just a touch though. And I prefer matching wheels all around - don't like the idea of painting them the car color though, blacked out is cool, but the fronts need to be some type of black wheel too.. I know its going out there a bit with nice wheels, but how about having what is on there done black?? Paint the spokes and leave the "trim area" silver, then do the rears with "beauty rings"?? You asked.
 
Love the look of the black steelies on the rear, goes perfect with the stripe & the 440 callout, and the stance is perfect!
 
All right - who dug up this thread that's 3 months old?!! :)

I'm actually in agreement with a number of things - including a wider wheel with much deeper dish and possibly not even steelies at all. But hey, I wanted to be able to easily (and cheaply) swap on some drag radials, and not mini-tub it, not narrow my rear, keep them tucked inside the fenders, not jack it up, etc, etc... But hey, I appreciate all the feedback - I really do.

I'm still not sure whether I like the look - still an experiment and certainly not full time. It's like a pair of shoes or a shirt - either you dig it or you don't. And some people aren't going to 'get it.' ("Oh, looks like he couldn't a afford matching set of wheels...")
 
I could only dream of owning a car as cool as yours one day. For now I will just have to make due with aluminum skinnies and steelies on my mopar.
 
I am partial to the black and caps look myself...I would stick some bullet hole caps on there and call it a day!

74 is stock steel with caps. 72 are custom steel in satin with caps and trim rings.

Car looks great, I'd keep them black.

I also wouldn't be against raising the back end some for a more aggressive rake, but in the end it's your car! haha

I have Mopar Police Wheels on my '67 Notch. They are 15"x7".

Are all of the police wheels the same width/bolt pattern/backspacing?

My bolt pattern appears to be 4-1/2", is that correct?

Also, the backspacing appears to measure 4-1/2", is this typical?

Also, what size tires can I run on the front of my car on those wheels? Thanks!!!

I could not make a decision either, pretty sure I wanted black.
Shot the spare orange, and one black.
Ended up with black on the car.

I vote for body color 15x8" steelies, no hub caps, chrome Cragar skinnies up front, and long chrome lug nuts on back! I might raise the rear an inch, but not much more!!

What "custom backspacing" did you need to acomadate those tires?

A nod to the old school look. Like the tires (Nitto 555R 275/60-15 drag radials) but in this case, not sure about the 15x8 black steelies with custom backspace. Leave 'em black? Paint 'em body color?

What do you think?

What "custom backspacing" did you need to acomadate those tires?

They're 15x8 with 5.25" of backspace. Pretty weird, I know. But here's why. It has a b-body rear that was originally narrowed for a different pair of rear wheels and tires. I don't recall where the dimension on the axle ended up at but it's narrower than a stock B and a little wider (I believe) than a stock A.

I abandoned the black steelie idea and am going to relocate the springs, mini-tub, narrow the rear again, and go with a 325 tire. The wheels will have 3.5" of BS. Will likely sell the steelies and tires that have probably less than 25 miles on them.
