Anyone ever mini tubbed a 66 Barracuda? Is it the same as doing a dart... i,e move the springs in and maybe splitting and stretching the tubs? What size tire can I get under one like this? It will have a narrowed dana 60 under there so I can set the width.. Just do not want to do a back half at all.

My 66 is mini-tubbed. I didn't do my own work, but it is the same as any other a-body. If you intend on putting the cargo area metal filler pieces in, you will have to widen them and make your own carpet. The piece that makes the floor flat will have to be narrowed along with the seat bottom and retainer bar. When you hang the springs from the frame, there's no room for exhaust on the right side because of the gas tank offset.

IIRC, you only gain about 1" on each side of you tub it as the frame rails are still inboard of the inner fender by about an inch. Looked that way to me unless you back half it and run a 4 link, but I just glanced at the idea, no measuring tape. The back seat will need to be sectioned or removed.

Do you know the tire size and wheel offset on back of your Cuda? I found the ad were you had it for sale and that is what I am looking for.

My 64 Valiant is mini- tubbed. Also did not do work myself but tires on mine are 295 50 15's and believe the wheels are 15 x 8 bbp with a 4.5" backspace ( wheel vintiques units)

My tires are 295/50/15's. The weld wheels are 15 X 10 with 6 1/2" of backspace. Not sure if a 305 would fit with the car low.

My 65 Dart is mini tubed. We do this kind of fabrication in my shop every day. Not to bad to do. Making the filler pieces is a little time consuming but not hard. we make the filler panel from one piece. not small sections. We feel this gives a much nicer finish product. yo can run a 10 possibly a 11 with the right tire. depending on how low the car is. I have 18x10 on the rear of mine with 26.5 tall tire. sits really low.

Thanks for posting prrc.
Awesome pictures of process.
Double checked my 64 yesterday & actually have 15 x 10 wheels also, not 15 x 8's like I thought.

PRRC, thats exactly the fit and stance i would like my 64 valiant. Being in cali i cant have you do the work, but maybe you can throw me a recipe? did you make the relocation kit or is that store bought? 3" mini tub, what spring rate ect. Any help you would be willing to throw my way would be extremely appreciated. also I noticed you kept the axle full length. That would be the only change i would make in order to get a dished wheel. How does she handle?

The spring boxes are RMS. The springs are flex form rate is 225. A very flat spring only 3 inches of free arch. Rear end is a Ford 9" cut to fit . How does it handle? Not finished yet. But I will let you know shortly.

Really cool work there. Much neater than the ones I've done... I'm certainly taking notes!!

Sorry for the highjack, but since the OP's question has been answered I figured it's OK. Here is my first mini tub job, pretty much my first Bodywork at all, other than the floorpans. Mines a 68 though, and not and early A. I only brought the tubs to the frame rail lips, not the full stretch to the sides of the frame rail. I hope I don't regret that later, but I wanted to keep the full strength of the frame rails. I still picked up about an inch and a half I think.

I have a 66 Barracuda that a good friend did the minitubbing on, but we also installed the RMS StreetLynx with boxed frame link mounts. I was able to fit 315/35/17 tires on 17x10.5 wheels with 6.8" BS. Like Commando66 said I had to trim/narrow all the interior parts of the cargo area, and like Pista says I had to get the rear seat back and release bar narrowed. An upholstery guy had to take to seatback completely apart and cut in half, trim, it, and restretch the cover. A lot of work to hide the tub and make it all work stock! Ironically, I'm now considering putting a roll cage in which would effectively make the backseat useless, lol! If I was only able to finish the carpet over the wheel well only someone with an acute eye for these 4 cars would know, aside from the huge meats underneath of course.
