I am considering installing headers to my 390 stroker.
I have always been the stock look etc kind of guy but,
have really given it some thought and if I can find a clean fitting set of headers I will make the move.
Also if anyone has replaced stock 340 manifolds with headers and can honestly say it had a real impact on performance I really would like to know.
I have just a nice fairly basic stroker build with bolt on Eddie heads.
When the machine shop did the Dyno it came out with 450H.P and 490 FT/lb torke.
I'm just after a liitte advice here..
Thank you in advance!:D

Doug's or TTI's seem to be the only choices you have.
This has been discussed to death on here.......

I have tti on my 67 barracuda for three years now and love them. Also they have never hit the pavement the old one would hit all the time. You will feel big difference over exhaust manifolds. App.rox 20 HP

Are you running power steering? Then all selections are a pain in the ***. Manual steering, then Dougs or tti.

Craig, just bought a set of TTI for my dart. They are the best fitting I have seen of all the cars I have looked at. I bought them on here from a guy in Stratford. Your stroker will breathe a lot better than the stock manifolds with headers and you will notice the extra ponies.

I put a set of Patriot (Made by Dougs) headers on my 74 Duster with a 360 and power steering. Fit was excellent and they don't hang down near as far as the Heddman ones I removed. I have yet to drive the car but as far as fitment, they are spot on.

Dougs 453, good ground clearance and clears power steering as well as all the linkage

I haven't tried the TTI shorty headers myself (I want to and will at some point), however, the fitment and installation is suppose to be superior to any out there, and good to 450 hp (claims TTI). TTI also makes the down pipes for them too

TTI would be a good choice. They step up from 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" which will help breathing over straight 1 5/8" headers (Doug's). I have them on a 360 Dart Sport with their 3" X-pipe and DynoMax Ultra Flo mufflers and couldn't be happier. Never on a dyno but it certainly makes well more than 400 HP, running as fast as 11.14 @ 117 weighing 3,540+ lbs.

Here is a dyno chart/exhaust comparison on a mild 360/300hp engine. The HP and torque benefits are throughout the entire range and will be even more pronounced with better flowing heads and related components. Better breathing with headers may require re-jetting the carb to re-optimize the tune-up.

Other benefits are:
* Don't need a 90* oil filter adapter.
* Mini starters can be replaced without removing the headers.
* Clear Milodon oil pans.
* Plenty of clearance in the chassis and the ground.
* Easiest installation I ever had in a stock chassied car.

For those with power steering, how do you install the headers? Remove power steering, install header, install power steering?

I just unbolted my power steering and moved the motor over a little bit with a hoist and was able to install the header. Didn't have to completely remove the motor, just undo the motor mounts to give some side play

Thanks to everyone!
I do have power steering so that be a pain.
I know it has been posted to death,but I was hoping maybe more people have done it and would have more comments or ideas!
Thank you, keep them coming..

I've never removed the power steering, not even for the cheapo headers. I just got the car plenty high off the ground, and raised the motor about 4-5 inches off the mounts. I do hear the shorty TTI's go in from the top with the motor bolted in. I wish more people have used them to verify what I hear......????? anyone out there?

2 people in this world those those that have TTI's and those that wish they owned them:D:D

Owned cars and installed both Dougs and tti.

Save money by Dougs. If you can get them using the autozone 20% off deal, makes a coated set around 500 US.

dougs with power steering and mini starter.
really easy to install , I undo the steering linkage,motor mount bolt lift engine up et Voila!

very easy compare to the cheap ones,!

Are you racing? On the street and depending on the size of the engine the impact on anything under 4500 RPM give or take is virtually zilch.

If headers don't help below 4,500 rpm, your carb tune-up is way off of the headers are too big!
