I've got several sets of headers that I would like to get ceramic or any other recommended coating. Where do you get yours done or if doing it yourself, what do you recommend? Cost for ceramic other commercially applied coating would be nice to know as well

Hot jet coating is the name of the company you want to send them to. They warranty their stuff for life if I'm not mistaken.

It depends on what you want the coating to accomplish.
Zirconium dioxide is applied hot, using a plazma or flame process. An intermediary coating is applied first. The final product is relatively thick (for a finish) and is probably one of the highest insulating thermal barrier finishes available for headers.

If you are looking for a bright shiny finish, the plazma sprayed Zirc isn't going to be the ticket. Most hotrodders go for a organic finish which can have a variety of materials carried in it providing everything from chrome-like shine to flat black. There's at least one FABO member who does this type work. Shiny surfaces will radiate less heat than matte and very dark surfaces although there is some disagreement about how effective this is within an engine compartment.

Ceramic is the way to go if you can afford it . Do it yourself I used East wood .
Interior was done with high heat coating with the plastic tube , kinda messy but affective .
Then I used East wood high temp aluminum color ,had enough for about three coats ,then baked them in the oven for two hours at 450 degrees. ( if you bake them use the neighbors oven cuz it really stinks up the house.) :violent2:

I use Calico Coating, in Denver, NC....which is close to Hickory. They did the TTI headers for a Challenger I had, and they never even offered to discolor or flake. They blast them inside and out, and do a high heat thermal barrier on the inside. They will do whatever you want on the outside. They charged $225 to do them, but that was about 10 years ago and the price may have gone up some.

Just buy tti ceramic polished headers and have the best of both worlds, fit and looks.

Ah, but the headers I have are for a slant - my long tubes for my wagon and a pair of shorties. TTIs would be just the ticket if I were putting them on my Barracuda. It's going to retain the original manifolds which I will blast and coat with the Eastwood coating.

FYI - You never want to put Bright Ceramic Coating on shorties or cast manifolds.......
