Now I know what Im giving away for FREE, some cringe at, which is a twin mattress set. They were my daughters first mattresses from when she grew into a regular bed. Well it was time to upgrade her to a new mattress set, so we had to get rid of this one.

I listed it on Craigslist or free. Of course I had a ton of emails of people that wanted them. My reply to each person was I would not hold them for anyone, first come first serve. Of course everyone wanted them. So I set them out in front of my garage and replied to the people that wanted them with my address. Only 1 person showed up to get them, but they were too old for him, so he passed. Not a single other person showed up, but my god they sent me a couple dozen emails stating how bad they wanted the set and begging me to hold them.

Why do people waste others time with multiple emails and never showing up??

I can be there tomorrow, will you hold it for me?

Basically the same thing here on this board, if you try and sell your auto parts.

Lots of e mails back and forth, and then they never step up to the plate, when it comes to purchasing the item.

No difference on Craigs, for free, or with a price.

What ya gonna do?

Because they are a bunch of full of **** window shoppers, that's why.
You are lucky 5 of them didn't want 25 pictures too. :D

I was selling something once (don't remember what at the moment) and some dip from the same 2 mile long town I live in wanted detailed pictures taken and emailed to him.
I told him that if was actually interested in buying it he could get off his lazy *** and come look at it in person, because I'm not going to spend an hour taking, sizing and emailing pictures to window shoppers.
Of course he was all offended that I would say such a thing, but never asked where to look at it either.

I also told 2 other people the same thing, but one guy asked if he could come by and look at it and he ended up buying it.

I won't play their stupid time wasting games, and I don't do it to other people.

When I've listed items like that for free the first couple of emails usually ask if I can deliver the item.

Put a sign on them for $50. They will disappear

My Aunt was hoping someone needed a working refridgerator, so she put it out on the front sidewalk with a "free" sign on it but it sat there for a week.

She chained it to a telephone pole and the next morning it was gone. LOL

No bed ='s no car.

Just donate it to your local Salvation Army, and take the tax write off for it. They will put it to better use than just about anyone else.

I never go for something that's " first come, first served " ? Drive all of the way across town (or further) just to watch someone else driving away with it !? I've sold a LOT of stuff on Craigslist (and free) and yes first come first serve to an extent. The first caller gets the first shot at it and has an hour to get there and then I take a list and go down that list of people usually if it not the first or second the third gets it. And yes I've had dirt bags that try and they say they'll give me more money than the first person or something like that and I always refuse because the first person called first and is on their way over. I think it's a lazy for someone just to put something out and say first come first serve expecting the whole world to drive at Mach speed across town getting an accident trying to get an old mattress that's ridiculous. And I'm a strong believer when they say Craigslist flakes that goes for the seller as much as the buyer.

YOU messed up, it is your fault..... get the people's address, and DELIVER the darned mattress!!!!!!
you should also unload it and set it up for them, and then take the entire family out to dinner> ha

when i was six, I whinned to my mom that she should cut up my meat for me... she asked if I wanted her to cut it, AND chew it for me!!!?????
I got the point.

Even in our small burg, the larger charity thrifts will pick up so "you" don't have to haul it

Lmao, but true! Parting out a dodge ram and a few other things on cl right now, and dealing with the same stuff. Sorry am not driving 45 minutes both ways to meet at gas station with a $20 piece. What will I take? Depends how much cash you're waving at me in my driveway.

I seem to come across "cl flippers" quite a bit

When I opened this post there was a mattress ad on it!

We used to run a small clothes donation operation out of our basement. Had tons of clothes for free. nearly 80% would not show up then ***** about us. We finally just went to a small web site and gave it away from there. So many wanted it delivered, we were like no, you pick up at this time or you won't get it. That way they were not in our house or we had to take off work.

I had a pop up camper I wanted to get rid of so I put it out by the road with a free sign! Nobody wanted it, so I put a for sale sign with a $50 price, somebody stopped within the hour and asked if I would take $30!!! Nope, I'm holding out for $50!!!!!.....NOT, i stashed their bills in my shirt!!!!!

o k so this is off the mattress subject, but......years back, I have RAISED the price on Mopars and Quarter Horses I had for sale, and they sold THEN NO PROBLEM.

people equate price to value. now days, no one wants a buy a car unless its pennies on the dollar!??? ha

years back, 93-4 ???? maybe,I was at a Mopar show/swap here in Mo. I had a 70 cuda roller for sale nice project. . no bites all day. later that day I was sitting on the trailer with a buddy, watching people wander buy, after a few beers..... we would occasionally holler to a passer by, " real hemi cuda, all there just needs an engine",, anyone give $1000!!!????????????? they would keep on walking......

o k so I was a lowly 383 car. but we had to laugh.....

On a little different subject but still a Craigslist Rant, this one always makes me laugh.

I guess it is up to me this year to clear up the "what is firewood" mystery. I will first tell you what firewood, or fire wood,is NOT. If you have a log that is ten feet long and twenty four inches indiameter, that is NOT firewood. No sir, you have got yourself a big damn log there. Now, if you were to cut that 1,000 lb log into lengths of say sixteen to twenty inches, and then split those pieces into maybe eight or ten equal smaller pieces, then my friend you have firewood. Maybe. If that log was nineteen years old and laying on the ground all this time, and got all nasty wet and **** full of bugs, then you got a nasty, buggy pile of refuse. NOT firewood. Also, if that log is pine, or some other sappy wood, you still got no firewood. But, on the upside, you will now stick to everything you touch for a little while. That seems easy enough. Now, if you have some dang nice red oak in some nice twenty or thirty foot lengths, you got the MAKINGS for some top notch firewood. BUT, if those lengths are VERTICAL and you run the risk of that "firewood" landing on your house, you still ain't got no firewood! You do however have the makings of an inevitable and certainly nasty and unprofitable lawsuit/insurance claim. If that "firewood" falls on your neighbor’s house, you are truly f'd! Also, if that free firewood is in a great big pile of root balls and dirt and sand and monkey ****, you, as you have surely guessed, STILL have no firewood. You are looking to have your yard cleaned up in exchange for some old, piled up debris that has been there since they cleared the land for your house. Why not just say that? In your ad just say, "free wood if you will just clean up my nasty yard. The neighbors are getting pissed". Simply put, firewood is wood that is READY, or damn near ready to be put into a fireplace or woodstove. If it is free, then folks expect to have to cut it up some (PLEASE NOTICE THAT I DID NOT SAY CUT IT DOWN) and more often than not, expect to split it. They do not expect to have to miss your house with it on the way down!!! Look, while the sentiment is awful sweet, and awful nice, you don't save anyone a dime if they go through ten saw chains procuring their "free wood". Just say it like it is. Most folks would rather read a well worded, and well thought out, free yard clean up scam ad, than to have to click on the next ad after feeling like an *** for even hoping for the GENUINE kindness that is really out there. Lots of love, Jim
