Hey all,
I am new here, I have lurked for a while and read a thread about 3d printing hard to get parts. I would like to see what anyone has had 3d printed and also say that I do have a 3d printer and am willing to help when I can. I am disabled and stuck inside alot of the time so I mess with the 3d printer and laser engraver every chance I get.

Welcome to the site. Nice of you to put the offer out there. How about posting a little about yourself? We like primarily Mopars but they don't necessarily have to be older or an A body. By your user name you've got an SRT of some type.

yes, montoursville PA. I was also in the navy, over the past decade or so I have developed an intractable pain disease, and because of this I sometimes drop off the face of the earth for a few days/weeks at a time. I am also a huge supporter of Kurdistan and the Kurdish people. I am working out a way that would allow me to travel there foe about a year to volunteer in the fight against isis. the biggest obstacle is being able to keep a supply of my meds. but this is a discussion for another forum.

What kind of 3D printer do you have and how much did it cost? I use the one at my work for rapid prototyping and small tooling. I'd still consider myself a novice as the program mostly does all of the work with the tool path and such.

What type of materials are you able to print?

it is an I3 variant with hot bed that I bought as a kit. you can get them all day long for around 350.00 usd shipped to your door. I have printed the regular stuff, ABS, PLA, ninjaflex, fiber optic, glow in the dark, translucent, as well as the specialty filaments like carbon fiber, wood, and metal. It seems to eat everything I have thrown at her. I don't record most of the projects i do but I guess I should start. here is my youtube channel, as I said it is kinda bare right now. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXROvKNRoA-ljttN9FOKk-Q/videos

actually you can get them for as low as 250 delivered, and it takes less than a saturday afternoon to put it together. you'll be printing by sunday afternoon.

First welcome to FABO...

Second what kind of software are you using to design the part before sending it to the printer???

I have training in AutoCAD2015 and Inventor2015.

we are practically neighbors

Someone ( may?) have a G code from a printed AR15 gun body to be used on a 5 axis mill. using this G code an AR15 cost is only $375 at the most. All other parts are available on line. Only the body is not available due to Numbers. The mill can pump one out every couple of minutes with this G code. Un traced Plastic reloads tips can also be made. Great peice of equipment and everyone should have one. they can also be used to make .050 cal. full auto side plates . Several uses are at hand besides car parts.

Do you have a link or a brand name of where I could buy a printer? Are there any special modifications needed to swap from a plastic to metal let's just say? Where do you purchase your material from?

Here's a "quick'n'dirty" prosthetic hand my engineering team at school slapped together for the term project last week.

It's ABS plastic and was designed in Solidworks. The device is meant for victims of political turmoil in least developed countries that may have lost digits in explosions or shootings.

There were a lot constraints involved for the assignment; we had way better ideas and designs than this, but we were limited to a 36-hour print-time and all thirteen individual pieces had to fit within an 8" x 8" plate.

We ended up winning the competition against 4 other teams.

When I started school, I thought the 3D Printer was the refrigerator for the engineering design lab.

I have pretty much every available cad/cam software available, but I suck at most of it. for the 3d printer I use meshmixer and 123d design, for the cnc mill and router I stick with mastercam x and vcarve, the laser is still pretty new so I think I wil gut it and convert it to run off of mach. the plotter uses flexisoft8. I am only a hobbiest and have no formal training on any of this design stuff. I know just enough to get by, I use thingaverse alot and I do have just about every cam file for all the 3d printed firearms, see my youtube for an AR15 being printed. I am a weapons expert and have built/machined/printed more firearms than most will ever see.

Come out here and take a few classes at our local comm college, they have one of the best Autodesk instructors in the country. He gives seminars at the yearly AutoCAD convention in Vegas every year. He's awesome and shows some great short cuts... :prayer:

If we could 3D print some of the parts for sunroofs, that would be awesome. Plus there are ZERO aftermarket options for parts.

when are his vegas conventions? I will be at the vegas DEFCON 2016. well that is health contingent.

Whoever my secret Santa is, if you could come up with a way for 09SRT6 to print out a 62 valiant 2 door (stock looking) that would thrill me! (Hint hint)
