potentially looking to swap out a 904 bolted to a 1970 date coded 340 installed in a 68 barracuda with an 833 from a 1974 dart 4 speed with a 360 and have a few questions before buying the donor car.

1. Will the bellhousing from the 360 marry up to the 340 without any special items r modifications or would I need to procure a new one?
2. I believe the 1970 340 has an internally balanced crank requiring a neutrally balanced flywheel and I am assuming the 1974 360 flywheel is not compatible as from what I have read these engines were externally balanced and had flywheel balancing holes for that application.
3. Are the clutch and pressure plates compatible here or would it be better to simply get new ones? if new simply ones for an 833 with the proper spline count?
4. Would this work for my application or should I try to find a different donor car for this effort?
4. any other considerations with the balancing or other items that may become an issue here?

Looking to this forum as there seems to be an abundance of knowledge and don't want to waste time or money if this will not work.

I appreciate in advance any help!

Thanks

360 Bell housing yes
360 Flywheel no
Clutch yes
906 Driveshaft no
Everything else yes

I thought the 904 and the 833 have the same length driveshafts, but the front yokes are different. They make adapter joints, but in my experience they don't suffer 400 hp for long. The Dart shaft can be shortened.
The 360 flywheel can be rebalanced for the 340.
Zero balance flywheels shouldn't be hard to find, but new ones are pricey. For a streeter with street friendly rear gears, stick to steel or iron, especially with the 340.The extra weight will help get it out of the hole/off the line.

The drive shaft yoke is the same for 727 and a833 transmission 904 is smaller. Can't remember the brand but summit sales a stock flywheel for under a $100. I got a bilit steel one for 440 source for under $200. You can pay $400 plus easy. AJ, I think he said he had the whole donor car so apparently that should come along with the drive line also? 4 speeds are very hard on rearends, be prepared ! Ask me how I know :D

You're gonna spend anywhere from 1.5k - 2k, pending where you buy parts and if you are doin the work yourself. Mine cost 1.8k.

Thanks for all of the information. Confirms a few of the things that i believed were true. If I am able to get the donor car at least it will trim some of the cost for the items needed and provide some frame of reference to put it together properly. I'm sure a few differences but would expect that. sourcing all of the items individually would definitely up the cost past the 2K mark. i would be doing the work myself so that would help.

Again thanks for the advice and information.
