I have a 1968 barracuda with 440 running two fours with new 26in aluminum radiator in it with two 10in electric fans 2300cfm each on it having trouble over heating on me sitting still it runs about 200 degrees going down the road it will go to 225 to 260 degrees sitting still is this running to hot sitting still. Someone told me to run electric fuel pump on it that my help it to run cooler is this true?

Sounds like a lean mixture on the .carb's or the timing is way out of setting

I have never herd about going to a electric fuel pump to cool an engine down :glasses7:

Yea, me neither.
Ditching those electrics and going with a mechanical with a shroud will do what you need.
I run electrics on a basically stock bottom end 318 so it's not like I have a problem with electric cooling.
It just isn't enough for a big block that's all.

Welcome to the site,.

Overheating is a very common problem with electric fans,..

I did a quick "search" of "overheat" for you over in the "Cooling" forum, and came up with these most recent "threads", which will give you an excellent oversight of which elec fan systems DON'T work, and there were some brilliant mountings, and shrouds.

and most recently some fan configurations that DO work.

hope it helps

As said not enough air flow. I'd get the good MP clutch mechanical fan in there with the most blades with a schroud and the fan properly spaced into the schroud (~2/3 in iirc) OR if you do stay with electric be sure to get one that will whip up a tornado

WHERE IS the timing and what is the timing curve? Make sure that is within reason

Determine what the fuel mixture is doing. If you don't have wideband, learn to read plugs, which is not a cure all

Change the thermostat "just because" to a Stant 180

Check out the water pump, belts as best you can

AND THEN

You have access to a high speed road nearby, one that you can get to fairly easily from your house? If so, remove the entire electric fan package and make a test run at least 45 mph and see if it overheats at that speed. If it does not the electric fans are not flowing enough air AND they are restricting free airflow at highway speed.

Or---as recommended above, get back to a factory fan setup. NOT a flex fan, and you want a shroud, which you can build. If nothing else, have a sheet metal shop build a blank pan, and then you do the rest.

And...having a front radiator to hood seal will help keep the air flowing "through" the radiator and not above it.

Over heating or under cooling???

Ditch the electric fans...

FIRST, make sure the air is flowing the correct direction. If the fans cannot hold a piece of paper against the front side, you are not flowing enough air. Make sure you are running a fan shroud, especially if you are running headers as they can transmit a lot of heat to unshrouded areas of the radiator.
