I wanted to make a forum like the nor-cal group, but for SO-CAL. I havent seen any for SO-CAL so if there is let me know and ill delete this! I think it would be good to be able to help each other out from SO-CAL on connections or just knowledge on cars. So if anyone from SO-CAL wants to ask questions or post go right ahead!

Alright so i am going to put a 340 or a 360 engine in my duster, what i am wondering is do i need to put a bigger rear end in? It has a 7 1/4 rear end in it i believe but i was told i could just put better gears in it and i would be alright. Is that true or will i just be better off putting in a bigger rear end in the back? and save me the trouble.

The 7-1/4 will NOT hold up, long term, to a 340 or 360. An 8-3/4 is your best choice, but an 8-1/4 will work if that's all you can find or afford.

Yep, the 7 1/4 is not strong enough for a 340 or 360. :violent1:

I blew up 3 of them on 4 years behind a mild 318 with a 4 bbl, 340 cam, and dual exhaust. :violent2:

I went to an 8 3/4" sure grip and never had another axle problem... :blob:

Here's a start:

Inland Mopars Car Club meets the first Sunday of each month. We have monthly activities in addition to several outstanding annual activities.
PM me with your email address if you have an interest and I'll forward more information to you.

I need a speedometer cable but apparently their are 2 cables one that goes to the trans and one thaT hooks up to the steering column, does anyone know where I can find both cables. I have a automatic transmission 73 duster

Maybe they can start a chapter. The LA basin is a really big place

Where abouts in Chino? I'm just North of Chino Ave, just East of Mountain Ave.

Tell us about your car?!

Jeff

I'm right near the woman's prison and the cow farms n chino, I have a 1973 Plymouth duster, I have had it for almost 6 years now, I have a 225 3.7l inline 6 automatic. It's blue, and I just got the interior redone. I plan on putting a 360 in it, possibly rebuilding it myself and keeping the automatic and putting a bigger rear end, and eventually try to do my own body work.

Nice.....I'm hoping to get mine back together in time for the Chino Car Show in late March! I had my Stingray in it last year. ..it was a lot of fun! And super close to my house!

Just an update on getting my car on the road....
As usual, I came down with a case of "while I'm at it "!
So I'm rewiring the entire car...new harness inside and under the hood.

Getting it back on the road by Spring might be pushing it. ...looking more like late Spring or early Summer. ....

Still looking forward to some awesome cruises, get togethers and shows this Summer. Gonna be a GREAT Mopar Summer!

Jeff

Yeah I am to! I just bought a mopar 318! So I will be dropping that in, the next 3 weeks! I am pretty excited! Finally found a good deal, going to get rid of the inline 6 225! Hope to ride around in the future Jeff!

Hey Tyler, hope you found a good deal on a new automatic. The auto behind your slant won't bolt up to a V8 - specific bellhousing only fits a slant. You'll need either a 904 or 727 for your new smallblock.

Im from So Cal - Orange County, or Santa Ana to be more specific.

Here is a picture of my current project, 64 Savoy Wagon, this is actually my first B body car... ever... I am much more familiar with the 62-65 A Bodies. Drag Raced a 65 Valiant all over before I sold it about 8 years ago.

From Wikipedia

"A three speed Torque Flight automatic along with a manual transmission was offered with the 225 slant six."

I'm assuming Torque Flight means 727. I've never heard of a 904 referred to as a "Torque Flight".....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Duster

Jeff
Yes, the 904 is also a Torque flight.

Sometimes referred to as a TF-6 for the 904, and TF-8 for the 727

But they put the 727 behind everything and the 904 behin db the slant 6 and small blocks, never the big blocks or hemi.
