Does the circled hole in these pictures have/require a plug in it?

Nah not yet, it's still in the car n running great. (the above pictures sourced online)
 
checked slant six forum - subject: coolant in oil - answer: Crack in block or head cooling passages. Theoretically could occur from an oil cooler failure, if you have one of those.


 
Thanks Mike. All points to the block, which is odd because it's always had good antifreeze and never been abused. I'll pull the oil pan and use some florescent fluid in the cooling system to hopefully pinpoint the leak.
 
We have recently removed several very nice slants that we would love to sell cheap. I only say this because I noticed you were in Or.
