TNT'ers think they are racers

-
Boy, RockinRobin. LOL !
- TNT is racing, just ask a cop if you do it on the street if you line up two cars....
- And, did I understand you right? 1/8 mile is what u race? If so, a lot of folks here say "that isn't racing".
- Ummm... as far as safety goes, that's what tech is for ... sigh..
- And, I see way more bracket cars putting up the "down time" on the track than TNT
- Nobody has to keep their mouth shut, and if so, you can shut your arrogant "if you don't see it my way, your wrong" mouth. LOL.....
- Some folks don't believe in gambling, so they don't enter your "pay to enter, hoping for a purse" classes.
- Fans like watch TNT (two cars leaving at the same time) than your handicap classes.
- Nothing worse than watch'n the handicap round of a 12.90 car vs. a 12.50 bracket cars. Loud open headers, slicks, and the speed don't match the noise. Anyone can dump 4.56 gears, high stall in a gutted car and run 12's. But a lot of bracket cars, this is right where they are... boring, boring, boring.

Troll alert.....

well usually i dont get into these conversations, but i count my myself as an average joe working from week to week to support me and my family, and when i have any extra money i like to work on my hot rod street strip , whatever you want to call it, i have raced motorcross, supercross tracks, both on motorcycles and atv's, raced my daily drivers and my hot rods at tnt and heads up events, got hundreds of time slips,i enjoy racing and talking to fellow racers to share info so we can all learn. I like pump gas street cars that are fast, that is my opinion and dont bash people that dont like them, thats just me, I to agree there are some ignorant and arrogant people sometimes at the track that get on your nerves that is when you avoid them and dont judge everyone else by a few stupid people, i like 1/4 and 1/8 racing both , the itch is to your preference, O and alot of 1/8 tracks are ihra and not as strick on rules, yeh i said that but it is my preference. so call me or us what you may, but look up the definition of a race up and it will prob say something about people want to get to a finish line first, so with that said that probably classifies a lot of us as racers, speed junkies, adrenlin junkies or or what ever you call it, but cant we all get a long:D

Test n Tune. did a lot of that with my dad and uncle in the 70's at E town. some of it was for a big street race in the tristate area and some of it was for a bracket event.
TNT is what the winners do.

View attachment 1015x295-s.jpgDRAGSThree nights a week, drag racers fill the paddock, lining up in pairs to see who is the fastest down the strip. Wednesday night is the NHRA Summit Series bracket races, for points and purse, in an exciting weekly series that runs from March through October. Friday and Saturday nights is the Late Night Drags, where you can put your car on the track and practice your skills, race your friends or just sample the world of drag racing.

Bracket racing was invented so the guy that has the most money doesn't win every race. It is based on skill not money. It gives poor boys like me a chance to race and have fun. I have a lot more respect for a guy that cuts a light on me than one that would out run me with money. I love heads up racing too. But I don't have the money to be competitive. My 8000$ challenger runs 10.50s which is a joke in a heads up race with most fast street cars these days. I love all drag racing and I like street outlaws too. Just take it easy on us bracket racers we're just having fun too.

I like to T&T, it gives me a chance to tune on my junk without the pressure of doing it during regular time trials on race night. I work 12 hour swing shifts on a seven day schedule so I only have two week ends off a month so I don't race much. Anyone that has bracket raced knows if you don't race much (most of the time) you're cannon fodder for the guys that are there every week end. This why my car is was built to run on pump 93 and be street driven.

From what I've seen most people that hate 1/8 mile racing aren't very good at it. When my Dart had the 340 it ran 7.24 in the 1/8 and 11.61 in the 1/4. Until you get to the stripe the last 1/8 of a 1/4 mile race was boring. Plus in a 1/4 mile race you have more time to decide how you are going to drive the stripe. In an 1/8 mile race the stripe comes up quickly so you better be on your game. You can beat on 1/8 mile racers but that's where some of the best racers in the country are.

Around here when there is a true heads up race (not often) you better have a car that runs high 4s or low 5s if plan on running near the top..

A time slip from my first T&T. You can see i noted it as my sixth pass (the best one!) Look at that reaction time?!! BEHOLD- my 60 footing !!!! Come get some!!! I'm a (REAL) racer!! LOL
Hey, I had to start somewhere...

it's a good 10 second car ------- in the 8th :happy1:

Fully understand the premise of OP's rant, but do not begrudge the TNT guy's one bit. I know that brackets are boring. I know most TNT guys don't give a damn about reaction times. I'm a bracket racer and I love the challenge of a good light and driving the stripe. I also understand wanting to have the fastest car possible. There are guys in my area that run our local track on TNT nights that have never entered a bracket race. That's fine. I think if they would give it a try they would like the challenge. There is always going to be a divide between brackets and TNT guys, but as long as they are at the track, that's what matters. If a TNT guy turns into abracket racer, good. If a bracket racer that sucks and decides he just wants to go TNT every now and again. good. If both say " I quit" BAD.

I find the whole post amusing......I have bracket raced a lot, and that is a boring thing to do in my opinion. TNT is a lot more fun, multiple runs, trying to make the car faster ect... Now you want to say your a racer......go try oval track racing....I did that for years as well, and its WAY more fun, and in my opinion takes about 100X more skill than a bracket race.

I like to TnT too. I am racing myself. My ability to tune, launch, and build and modify my car. I went from 13.20's to 12.12, just by working with the car. Most was in the carb, and timing. Not bad for a 64 Sport Fury with full interior, and sway bars front and rear. The people at the drags I hate is that certain group that show up with their 7-8 second cars, flapping their lips about how it's a $10,000 race. They pull into the burnout area, shut the car off. Open the hood. Start checking under there. I guess changing nitrous jets. Something they should have done in the pits. Then they open the passenger door repeatedly, I guess to make sure the bottle is on. The other times just for show. Then you get the whole pro stock burnout, including the opening of the passenger door a couple more times to clear the smoke, and maybe to make sure the bottle is still on. Then FINALLY they pull up to the tree, and start the starting line games. THEN they finally go, with one of these so called race cars almost guaranteed to break. Takes a while to clear the car, and maybe the track. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in the middle of 4 staging lanes for 2 freakin' hours! Of course I lost out on 2 runs that I should have gotten without the circus. If it's so important, don't hold up 40 or 50 people. Rent the damn track. I had this happen in Maryland, and Florida. Rant over.

I like TNT for a variety of reasons. I no longer have the purse to support a full time racing effort. I also don't have the desire to spend the money/time/effort in order to be competitive. I do however like to take the car down the track every now and then just for kicks and to race against my friends. I win some and I lose some, but it doesn't matter, we have a blast.....

TNT’ing is actually the perfect epitome of what Drag Racing is all about in my opinion, heads up and trying to make your car go faster every time and learning the sport, now instead of progressing from that once you’ve got good at it into brackets/index's where your now just trying to hit the same number every time, why not progress into a class where you add a few rules to TNT style events to equal the cars out in performance better and making the HU part and now your RT's relevant (similar to the rules we had for Super Modified as I posted up earlier) you’d have the perfect affordable heads up class. Anytime Heads Up racing is talked about its related to the Pro classes or no rules racing and its simply non affordable. So why can’t there be HU classes with some rules for the 12>10.0 sec type cars, or 9.9>9.0 sec cars, perhaps you guys already have that?........would like to hear about it as not familiar with all the many classes you have or your thoughts.

We have heads up classes/ index classes at one of my local tracks. 9.0/7.0/6.0/5.30. My truck is too fast for 7.0 and a little too slow for 6.0. I have been trying to pick up enough to run in the 6.0 class. Best so far has been 6.21@ 110. I also got to get a trans brake. You can't be competitive foot braking on a 4 tenths pro tree.

The trans brake may get you closer. Get consistent and then I would be tempted to get a throttle stop and run in the 7.0 bracket. It's easier to be competitive with a consistent car that doesn't have to run all out to get to the dial in number.

I'm not talking about HU index racing, thats just running to an index, I'm talking about HU first to cut the beams wins..true HU racing.

Around here we call that (FAST Eight) they run at least 3.80's in the 18.
