So I was thinking about a way to make "reproduction build sheets". I know this sounds crazy but I am a business programmer so reports are a part of my life. What I was thinking is I could make a webpage for each style of build sheets and then we could x our options and print it. Would anyone have an interest in this? If so a scan or picture or something of your build sheet would allow me to have something to work from.

I'm sure you would have some interest.
Any copy right laws?
Also it would have to state clearly that it wasn't original.Don't need people selling highly optioned cars according to a FAKE build sheet.

If we printed it ourselves it would be pretty obvious it wasn't original but I could certainly put somewhere on there that it is not an original.

68383GTS I didn't know that but I have been reading this forum for a while and I realize a lot of us change things. I was thinking this would allow us to make a new build sheet based on the options we have changed. Also I am not looking to make money on this just something we can use to make things we may not have.

I don't think it would be to difficult as I imagine the build sheet itself doesn't change much just the option codes from year to year and car to car.

If I am not mistaken, changing a build sheet is like changing a data tag or a VIN plate.
Changing a data tag/build sheet is like changing your DNA.
Changing a VIN plate is illegal.
Reproducing a build sheet is illegal as it is copyrighted by Chrysler and they will never allow it.

I would love to take my 340 Dart Sport and change it from a column auto with bench seat to 4 speed with buckets but ain't gonna happen.

It is what it is.

AdamR that is the type of thing I am looking and thinking about. The only difference would be that you would fill the information online and it would print out the options you have selected.

I am not suggesting changing a broadcast sheet or even forging one. I want to offer a way to print out essentially an option list with the options you have selected.

I guess the idea is cool. Certainly there are many people who wish they had their broadcast sheet so they can decipher the things that came on their car. But making one up that has options you want on your car makes little sense to me. What would it's purpose be? To show others?

It's certainly not illegal to reproduce a broadcast sheet, as they have no bearing on the registration of a car, but attempting to validate a car's options with the sheet is only going to impress the owner.

Although you say you are "not suggesting changing a broadcaset sheet or forging one" being that unless you had a completely documented via other means original unrestored survivor.. anything you put on there is simply a guess.

It IS illegal to reproduce a broadcast sheet !!

It has the Mopar pentastar on it and that is copyrighted.

And adding/subtracting or changing stuff on one is just being devious.

It would be cool for guy's like me with a broadcast sheet that look's like mine,

OneofMany my intention would be to allow the owner to document there car. 66 Dartman is a perfect example. My build sheet looked exactly the same. It may not be something interesting to anyone but the owner but it allows them to know what they have.

I am not suggesting a perfect reproduction of Chrysler Build Sheet. I am suggesting a generic looking option sheet.

Lets say your car came with a slant six and you changed the engine to a 318 or something else. You could make a broadcast sheet for your documents. I would not condone someone using one of these broadcast sheets to mislead someone and if it would make it easier of a pill to swallow I can put a ghost image through the broadcast sheet to indicate this is not an original.

I have a 1970 and a 1972 sheet in my hands right now.. there are no pentastars anywhere on either. The word "Chrysler" is used, but in a generic sans-serif font, no ®, © or TM or to be found anywhere on the sheet.
If you have a sheet that is in pieces, you can use a photo album page (grips the back and overlays the front) to assemble and keep it. A photocopy (color if desired) can be made for display purposes.

Since quite often, there are pieces unaccounted for when a sheet is in tatters, there will be codes that are unknown. Sure, you can guess or assume, but that's all it is.

The idea of displaying a broadcast sheet is to verify the originality of the vehicle it refers to. Changing it to suit your tastes, regardless of whether it has a ghost image serves no purpose. I like seeing old, tattered, pieced together sheets with original cars. Why would I (or anyone knowledgeable about bc sheets) be interested in studying or looking at something which is fabricated? The only people that might think it special are the owner, or someone who has no clue that it is a fake. Guess I'm just figuring out what benefit it really serves.

ECS (who can legally reproduce VIN door stickers and screening for the original dash VIN tag), showed a run of broadcast sheet tractor-feed paper he had made up allowing near-authentic repros of one's bcast sheet on another ^&&parts website a couple of years ago. Let's just say, the overall reaction was negative.

post this over at moparts. i'll bet you get quite a bit of feedback there to see if its worth it..

in my opinion the only reason to make a new broadcast sheet is to fake a car. other then that its useless. personally i don't think a vin tag, fender tag or braodcast sheet should be remade. if they are gone tough crap thats the breaks. once one thing is re-made i have to question how legit the rest of the car is..

the good thing is i don't think anyone has been able to match the paper and font 100% yet so guys can still spot a fake...

Yep just like you can spot aftermarket parts that so many insist are "original".

My point was NEVER to duplicate the broadcast sheet it was simply to give people a place to "document" their car. Sure I could probably make it look similar but never exact. Whether they matched the original broadcast sheet or not was never the point. This idea never got traction though so I never moved forward.

My 73 Cuda sheet is in pieces. So does anyone reproduce them? I know what options the car has, so I'd like to have an intact copy, not to deceive anybody.

you know what options are in it. why do ya need a sheet to tell you something you already know.

only reason for a reproduction sheet to to defraud someone in my opinion.

If you deal with crooks all the time, I can see your opinion. But if I want a copy, I should be able to have one. Only frauds and crooks would think everyone is one!
Don't care how old the thread is, it's still a good topic.
I get it now, your from Jourzee

like i said if you know what s in the car why do you need a sheet? only value to one is for resale. how does one know anyone getting a new sheet is 100% sure what was in the car or was being 100% honest when getting one made. i'm glad they can't dupicate them perfectly. keeps the hobby a lot more honest.

like what i said or don't. doesn't change the facts.. :)

I feel for everyone that's missing their build sheets, but there is something to the argument that reproducing them will inevitably be abused and destroy the integrity of the original sheets that managed to survive. I think one needs to just except that a missing sheet is part of the cars history.
