Hello Guys,
I'm sure this has been hashed out before BUT!!! My '69 Swinger was an original. 340/4speed, When I bought it a while back the guy before me installed a OEM BB K frame
From DIRECT CONNECTOIN installed era correct 440/727 on the floor with Hurst His/Her
Dual Gate shifter era correct.now I would like to put the 4speed back( pedal still there). Will an
ERA correct 833 out of a 70 Swinger work 23 spline from a 340? It's 23 3/16 long,WILL IT TAKE
THE PUNISHMENT FROM THE 440??? (550 hp) Also the 10 1/2" Flywheel? I know the bells are
Different. ANY AND ALL HELP APPRECIATED, JUST GETTING BACK IN THE GAME AFTER ALL THESE YEARS AT 57!!

All 833s even the OD will work for you on the street if trans is in good shape.
I have never broke any with street tires and always treated them very mean.
You just can't get the traction to hurt them.
If you do happen get a good plant the driveshaft or rear axle will give up first every time.
Slicks on a sticky rubber coated starting line is when things can break and with manual gearbox they likely will at first.
I have always liked the the extra level of control over the machine the driver gets
with a stick. Worth the breakage in my opinion.
At 550 HP I myself would make sure to use solid u-joints and a Dana 60 axle to keep it together. I used to just break the 8 3/4s be damn'd and pick up another one but I consider it wasting a part someone else could be using these days.
23 spline will work well enough to find your weak link in the drive line.

I am running an a833 cast iron overdrive 4 speed transmission in my 68 barracuda fastback. My engine is a 440 sixpack and my rear is a 391 suregrip(489 case). I only have traction problems and large amount of fuel consumption. Lol. I say go for it... I have thoroughly tested this match.
I am running the 11 flywheel so I had to alter/fab my z bar. I am not 100% sure if the 10 1/2 and 11 bells are different on the big blocks... I don't remember.

Thanks, SSBA,WOODY! and DAVE! I'll be swapping the '69 440/6 Dart back to Stick in early
Spring,I'll keep you GUYS posted!!
ALL THE BEST!!!
