need headers

welcome to the fray - yea, TTi's are expensive.. but worth the $$ as far as many are concerned - are you going racing or building a daily driver?

Well my nickel plated TTIs have been on my car since 99. I paid about $500Can back then(plus shipping). So 500/16 = $31Can per year. But the attaching hardware has never backed off, and the header gakets have never leaked, and they don't sound like those cheapies,. and the only rust through I have had is right on top in the merge area; and that's probably my fault for taking them through at least 4 Manitoba winters as a DD.
So if you can take a cheapie set through 4 years you will break even in cash outlay. But you will probably need to buy 1 or 2 sets of manifold gaskets, several sets of flange gaskets,And you will be retorquing the top bolts fairly regularly. The cheap sets often/usually have one or more pipes that go under the centerlink, and so will get smashed on nearly every speed bump you encounter. Sooner than later, the cheapie will start to suck air from a rusted out merge area, requiring removal to repair. And the metal is so thin, well, it is a PITA. So even though the initial outlay will be less, and cost per year may break even;the total cost including; gaskets, lost bolts, repairs, and time, well, you get it.
Now I agree that todays cost of those TTIs is out there, And I will not buy another set for that reason.I would possibly, maybe , most likely , buy a lower priced under chassis set. But then I'm pushing 63 now, so I probably don't need them to last another 16 years.heehee.

order yourself some dougs headers from autozone with a 20% off coupon

that will be your best bet

(or wait for rusty to chime in and tell you to bolt on some $100 hookers)

ScampMike. No racing. May take it to see what times it will run when I get it straighted out. Just a toy. Had a 72 Demon 340 4 speed 8 3/4 posi when I was a kid. Wrecked it. Had a 73 dart sport 340 4 speed posi. I sold for $1400 when i went in the service
I found this car. Body and paint great, and I hate working on that stuff. I like playing with the other stuff. I found a 8 3/4 489 case with a posi in it. Put new gears in and axles. Now I'm working on the power plant end. I ordered the TTIs.
Cam and heads next?

whoa - you coined up! excellent! - they are a PITA to install (then what headers aren't!?) but I fully believe you'll be happy for a long time with them. BTW - got pics?

when you get your box from tti. read the page about proper engine placement.
do the measurements carefully. You should have spool mounts just like my 73.
My engine sat too low in the k-member. Header tube was resting on p.s. box.
Not to mention the pitman arm and idler rubbing lightly on the headers.
My motor needed to go up to meet TTI's instructions.
the older motor mounts ( pad style ) its really easy. just add shims.
spool mounts are a little harder.
Make your motor mounts are good. do some mock ups and measure.
I left my motor loose in the k member then raised to the needed height. marked it all and redid the k- member.

not saying you will have this much trouble. But I did.
hope this helps.

Ya I have pictures but not sure how to get them on this thread?

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I don't have that much trouble. Hope to get started next week. Work gets in my way.

you wll fnd most use tt or dougs.there s a reason.and you wll fnd out if you get el cheapo ones.i agree the cost is getting up there, but should last you years with a little maintenance

TTI's...have/had them on 2 different dusters..no other headers i'll ever use...cheap ones are cheap for a reason..they're "garbage"...

I've been using the Summit headers on my '68 for 3 years now, and still going strong. The rest of my exhaust is also from Summit. I run Hooker Aero Chambers and foot log oval-megaphone tips on it too. The cost of the entire system was less than a set of TTI's or Doug's headers. It works great, no leaks and sounds awesome too. I have a set of QTP electric cutouts I still need to install too. Even when I add in the cost of those parts, it just barely exceeds 1 set of TTI's.

I always use Remflex gaskets, so no leaks and no re-torqueing necessary. They look, sound and fit great. I did have to dimple them in a few spots to make room for the pitman arm and my aftermarket oil pan. I striped and painted them black with BBQ paint from a spray can. They are a good value, but they do hang down a bit under the car.

We don't have issues with rust out here though, and even my '68 convertible has no rust.

Hard to justify the cost of TTI's when a complete system like this can do a such a great job.
