Not in my current plan, but down the road I'm CERTAINLY going to add an alarm and solenoids for keyless entry.

Any specific or special considerations I should do now while everything is all apart?

What brands or kits are you guys using if any?
I thought I heard I'll need heavy duty solenoids for the door locks.....don't know how true that is.....

I'd do it now but it's not in the budget. ..!

There is a local company that installs a bunch of alarm and keyless entry. They use Crime Stopper brand. I have had a few systems installed and they worked great.

How is your car setup, fairly stock, or electric pump, trunk battery, etc?

If it's fairly stock, consider adding an electric fuel shutoff in the mix. Actually you don't even need a system to do that, just the valve and a means to control it (hidden switch.)

Whatever you do, if somebody shows up with a wrecker / roll back, the only thing that might save the day is some sort of cell based tracker / alarm.

The car is basically stock....insured very well.
No one can stop every thief....
To be honest, I'm more interested in the keyless entry. ...I HATE using keys to unlock my doors. ...dark at night, fumbling around. ...

I love mine and consider it one of the best things I have done to the car just for convenience.
No alarm on the kit I got because I didn't want it, and for less than $30 shipped from Ebay I had to give it a go.
No beeps or lights flashing when it's activated because I didn't want it to.
Works from about 200 feet or better, or from inside the house.

Sounds like exactly what I want!
And at $30, it's back on the "now" list!

I'll look around for one ....anything I should look for....or to avoid?

Thanks

Looking for or avoiding is pretty much a preference thing I guess, since I have not used or seen many aftermarket kits.

I can tell you it's a bit of a challenge finding a good spot for the servo's, and they seem to have plenty of oomph for moving the lock rods and everything.
The best way I could find on the dart was to put them parallel to the lock rods about mid/rear door.
I did extend the wires for the drivers side to route them the way I wanted, and it was a bit of a decision to punch and drill for the door to body harness.
I used tubing from the body to the doors that seals and contains the wires.

Also the kit I got was actually for a four door, so I have two extra slave servos and it came with two remote fobs with batteries.

This is the one.

Gonna order that kit right now!

Put keyless in my daily driver and love it. No more keys near the paint. I was tired of always having to use a key to lock the car and waiting for passengers to exit and close the door so I could lock it from the inside before getting out myself.

Exactly!

Mine is keyless entry only. Cost me nothing. Years ago my bro in law gave me a controller with key fobs for my 2001 Stratus. I couldn't get it to work so I shelved it. My son put a system in his '74 Satellite which came with 4 actuators. I used the two extras from his kit with the controller I had put away. I found a great location for the actuators in the doors and it was pretty easy. I've got photos of where I mounted them but I'm out of town for a week. I've had a couple people at work look at me when I unlock the doors and then look at the car and back at me and say, "I didn't think they had keyless entry back then." It's a great investment of time.

When thinking electrical, also think about switching your headlamps to relays too. I'm a photographer so I measured the output before and after with my meter. I also went to sealed beam type halogen lamps replacing the 6014 oem lamps with 6024 and with it all increased the output x4 on my meter. My headlamps now stand up to my wife's 2013 Subaru and those are intense. I drive to and from work in the dark and have to think about deer. My vision is fantastic now even to the sides.

I tell people that now when it's raining the wife doesn't have to stand out in it while I unlock my door, get in, start the car, and find a good radio station. :D

I know, mean huh? :D
