Has anyone taken a mint interior that was a color they didn't care for and dyed it another color with success? If it's possible, is it worth it because you retain original pieces. Is it better or more affordable to buy all new and do it that way? Not looking for opinions, but advice from members that have actually done something like this. The reason I ask is I'm considering buying a car, but the interior color I'm not sure I like. I'm talking, dash pad, door panels, seats with cloth inserts, etc..

I've used Herbs Parts interior paint, with NAPA 2 in 1 primer base on various pieces. It's a flat color and you would need to cover in semi, satin or gloss clear, if required. The dealer will give you a part and you order the interior rattle can for the correct color....

Prepping is key, degrease thoroughly and use an adhesion promoter. Most auto paint jobbers can mix vinyl dye in any color or sheen you want. Some can even load it into a spray can. I can't say how a high wear item like a seat bottom would hold up, but have dyed dashes, door panels, even vinyl tops with good success. You don't want to pile the dye on, less is more.

Classic industries sells good interior paint, pricey but worth it.

Prepping is the key to making it work.

Thank you guys! Sounds like it can definitely be done with good results.

I had the same problem. When I bought my Barracuda it had brand new forest green interior (not very sexy/sporty). I wanted something more flashy/sporty but I didn't want to completely reupholster the interior. My solution was to get my interior guy to sew inserts into the seat. It was way cheaper than new upholstery and I love it!!
Since the exterior was the original yellow I picked a bright yellow to contrast with the dark green, it also went nicely with the bright yellow seat belts.
The Barracuda interior looked so plain when I bought it but now I get nothing but complements!!

Wow 12 years ago! That's great! Sounds like SEM is the product to use.
