Muscle Cars at the Strip ~ MATS Las Vegas 2016

-
It's the only time I get to meet up with Limedust70 and bug him to sell me his Demon.....

Didja see whose pic is on the website for the Slant 6 racing?
That's ol' "Limedust70" hisself!

The show has been open to all cars for the last several years. The Painters and Mopar have been in court over the loss of their dealerships and the use of the word Mopar. They will not renew the trade mark license to the Painter family. I wouldn't worry that the other makes are going to take over the event. Hell the Las Vegas AMC club(over 100) has been invited to attend for years and it's lucky that maybe 3 or 4 of them show up. I'll still go as many friends from all over the country and Canada. It is the once a year get to see you guys event.

So you are saying that the Painters can no longer use Mopar or Moparty anymore...so they are using Muscle car instead...yes..there have been mustangs and camaros at the last two or three events....

Or are they advertising the event as a open show to all cars?

Yes, advertised as all brands.

I don't get why the Left coast USA can't get a better turn out? I know it wouldn't be as big as the Nats or Carlisle but you'd think they could at least get half that crowd, I wouldn't have thought it hard to get 1000 cars, mopar only. When I first went to the Mats 3 years ago I was a bit underwhelmed, thought it would be a lot bigger. I've gone to the Mats again but mostly because timing worked out for visiting my Snowbird parents in AZ.

70aarcuda, Yeah, it sucks that Mopar would lay waist to a show that promotes their product. It wasn't known but the U.S.Marshals were on site a few years back to arrest Mr.Painter for the use of the word Mopar when Chrysler pulled all 3 of their dealerships. He changed to Moparty and it took a while but they stopped it too. Just last year the Mopar police had Rob Wolf of Mopar Collectors Guide make changes. If anybody noticed they no longer can use anything related to Chrysler on their T-Shirts.Only in the magazine.Makes no sense to me....But I don't own a billion dollar corporation that needs to crap on someone that promotes their product.

Looking at the registration the show field is mopar only and mixed racing as it has been.

If MATS or whatever it ends up being called, or worse, what the event ends ups being I will approach Auto Club Dragway at Fontana and start a Mopar only meet including 1/4 mile, Hemi Challenge, autocross and car show. Mopars at Fontana. I'll call it '****'

Famoso in Bakersfield has had an all mopar race for 3 yrs now...not getting alot of cars....

It's a really tough business.I think it was 2002 or 03 Las Vegas Motor Speedway planed their own "Mopar Event" I think only 6 or so of us showed up if I remember.

It's been tried before at Fontana - I think it was 2007-08. The organizers lost a ton of money and got out after 2 years.

I was there at Fontana when Dave and Michelle Waller ran the Mopar show on Memorial Day weekends. the drag racing venue ended up breaking even but the car show was very sparse in most classes and money was lost as to rent the track is expensive. I di not go the 2nd year but it was worse.

I have run the Chrysler Convention here in CT for almost 10 years after Paul Nagins started it and got burned out. It is very difficult to get the same people back year after year plus add new people with their vehicles. Everyone gets a mindset that I went last year and I will pass this year BUT the SHOW will still be there Next year!
ONLY three shows worth going to and will be sustained are, Mopar Nationals, Chryslers at Carlisle and Moparfest in Canada.

I hope shows like Big Daddy and the Rock are still there when I get time to visit after I retire.

We get around 550-600 Mopars and 200+ swappers at Spring Fling. It's our 30th year/show in April. I'm president of the club that puts it on.

I think there is still hope for well organized, good valued mopar events.

IMHO, the Mopar only race and show combo is a very tough type of event to tackle. I commend the Painter family taking that challenge on, sticking with it though the recession, and putting on great events.

IMHO, a car show is as boring as watching paint dry.....to each his own......

I'm on the fence about Vegas this year. Got the days off set at work, then my friend tells me it's now "Muscle Cars at the Strip". He says he'll go to Vegas this year(he already has everything booked), but he won't go to the show this year, or any year after now.
I've always said I only go to Mopar shows. The only thing that's making me consider it is they state that each Manufacturer will have there own show parking and swap meet area. I also think I read that if you're not satisfied, you can get your admission money back, as long as it's before Noon. So if I go and it's a weak Mopar turnout, at least my girlfriend and I can get the $60 back it cost to get in.
I always wanted to go to the Spring Fling, but the 16 hour, 1,000 mile drive is a little too far for me to go for a car show. I've been going to the Nats since '99, which is 18 hours and 1,300 miles, however, I'm from central Ohio originally and use it as an excuse to see some of my relatives.

The dates have been announced for the 2016 Mopars at the Strip event!!

March 18-20, 2016

Yep.....you're right Mike

If everything goes to plan, I will be at Muscle Cars at the Strip autocrossing all 3 days. I'll most likely be taking the cruise Thursday afternoon starting from the Glendora Dodge Dealership as it's 5 miles from my house.

Just remember the brand X car guys don't want to have anything to do with us either. As stated before, All cars have been welcome from 2009. This is the first year That Phil has advertised in other magazines other than Mopar Muscle and Mopar Collector Guide. You may get a few more cars but I doubt they will take over the show.
Here is a story that no one knows about. In 2004 Year One approached Phil about doing a all makes Las Vegas show.Offered big bucks to sponsor the event. Phil turned them down pledging allegiance to Mopar and the Mopar fans.Notice Year One hasn't been at the show ? Phil still lists them as sponsors even tho he don't see a dime. You would be surprised at how many show sponsors stiffed him. But the show went on. Then Ma Mopar let the Painter family down.Taking away their dealerships after 61 years with Chrysler.Every year we tell him he is nuts and why bother. But the show goes on......Sorry for the Rant.

I'm also on the fence regarding attending a "all makes" show. It's an all out trip for me, and a nice reprieve from winter, but really don't look forward to the sea of Chevelles, Camaros, and Stangs. Don't get me wrong, all muscle cars are worthy, but to spend $1K for a week trip-I WANT MOPAR !!!!! MCG (Rob) is certainly being cordial with his support, but Hot Rod Magazine signing on as a major sponsor reeks certain death for us Mopar faithful IMHO (sorry Rob). I'm from Pa, so .......never miss Carlisle and the NATS are an 8 hr drive so really lucky in that regard. MATS LV was such a great winter trip, when the Beeper is hibernating, maybe now the Spring Fling?? Somebody talk me into Vegas pls- bummed
