If you had the opportunity to trade your 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Commando 273 for a 1971 Dodge R/T 383 Charger (Both 3-speed automatics), would you do it?

maybe the 71 is a little better condition sheetmetal wise?? value wise, neither are on the "most wanted" radar list. like any model, there are guys that love the 71 B body and those that likewise love the 1 gen cuda. but both groups KNOW what the real world valve is!

I have had both examples over the years, and I like the cuda better. the charger will ride nice on the roads, handle like a bigger car. I just like the little cuda better especially with a good running 273. just me.

which "look" do you like?? and if a toss up, which car will require the most $$ to get it where you want it??

I like how the '71 has curves, can't bring myself to like the front or rear end, and the rear side window curve bugs me bad. I believe the '72 charger rear side windows had more of a Duster curve which I like a lot better. I think the Charger sheet metal wise is much better, but it is really a toss up. I think it would cost more for getting my Cuda restored because early A bodies typically cost more to restore due to demand and supply for low production numbers. I've never experienced big block power before. I'm also not sure about the length of the Charger, seems like it would be harder to turn corners, but not sure, only experience I've ever had was with A Bodies Only. I have a couple friends that can help me with getting parts, changing up stuff on the Charger as well. Hard hard decision.......

Yeah, it really is a toss up. They both have their pluses and minuses.

Try the Ben Franklin Close. Get paper and pencil and write down the pros and cons of each. Then compare and go from there!

The great thing is you have a choice between two MOPAR's...nothing better!!!

I would not consider a trade unless I could actually DRIVE the charger. so if you like how it goes!!!

repop parts for 71 b body. look around, not much! used parts.... probably more of the 71 up B . i'm like you I like the c pillow much better on the 72 charger, and Plymouths. the 71 charger is quite a bit heavier than the cuda you have, so the bb will help it be somewhat fun form the torque.

sway bars will help the 71. also it had steel isolators not runner like the later b bodies. but to me, they handle plenty good enough, with suspension in GOOD condition.

like I said, go drive it!!!

I like the Cuda a bit better, for a daily driver or cruiser. Nice small V8, enough power to have fun with. I prefer the Cuda body style over the Charger. Now, if the Charger were also a 66, Charger would definitely be top pick. I'd paint the Cuda, re-do interior, nothing fancy. Drive the piss out of it.

I would say Charger. Is it a real R/T?

That's not an R/T. Has the Coronet instrument panel for one thing and is missing the door louvers. Also the R/T was standard with a 440. 383 wasn't available. Hood is wrong for an R/T as well.

Never been a big fan of that style of charger. Looks too cadillacy for me. So i would pass.

Even with the Charger not being an R/T, I would definitely go with that. It has everything over the Barracuda - style (my opinion), value, and power.

But look over the Charger carefully - check the frame and floors for rot, and around the windows.

If the Charger had the power bulge hood option, yes. As it is, no.

I would not trade. I never liked those 71s.
The cubic inch to weight ratio is close to the same for either. But it would take over 500 cubic inches in the bigB to equal a 360 in the A.
I could see how you might want to tho, seeing all the work that the Barracuda needs.

Swap for the charger , a little work, drive and have fun , have for sale as you drive, make some money, move on to next mopar on the list, chargers can transform really nice , with ralleys, hoods, stripes , big block parts and trans and rears always seem easier to get for those cars, always find at swap meets, a body rear 8.75 used 600, b body 8.75 200. ,

I love my B Bodies like my A bodies, BUT I find it funny how many 100 % A body guys would bail if had the chance for a B Body!!! ha

Go to a nice car show...plenty of chargers out there..not so many a body cudas... both will be pricey to find parts for, we will help you find everything you need to restore the cuda...I say stick with what you got! The more early a body cudas that can be saved the better! Ultilmately your preference I guess....enjoy
