340 muffler decision

I have the Pypes Race Flo 2 1/2 system one my '70 340 Dart, big cam, Edelbrock air gap, 650 AVS, ported j heads and Dougs headers there is some drone around 30-40 mph but not bad at all. Over all it sounds real good, I'm a happy man!

Ordered a set of dynomax ultras today. I was looking if for a little more rumble and volume at idle, sitting in the driveway, slow roll into the local car shows and sitting at the stop lights in town.. My favorite thing to do is to grab a lawn chair and a beer and just sit and listen to the little 340 bump along at idle. It's music to my ears... I've got to replace the throwout bearing which is on order before i can put the exhaust back on.. I'll try and post a sound byte once it's running..

Took it out for a test drive today..It's a lot quieter than I expected.. Nice sound at idle without the "pinging".. Inside the compartment while driving was quite nice, no evidence of a drone. Upon hard acceleration I noticed more of a glass pak sounding "brapp", not sure how I feel about that, only time will tell.. So far so good, now just need to wait for for warm weather to take it cruising.. Thanks for all of the advice..

That's how my Valiant sounds. But my car has no sound deadening, so you mostly hear road noise and valve train noise when cruising. Get on it, and it has that same glass pack sound you described.

E55D21, those are the welded UFs and they will be louder than the more oval st. st. Ultraflows. Those are packed with a bit less sound absorbing CRF (fiber) and were typically a bit higher in sound levels when we checked them. Mostly, like you said, during acceleration and that is why they have that more blapp blapp sound. Tailpipes help in some cases but amplify the blapp in others.

While we are on the topic I'm curious what others are running. I'm looking at going 3" exhaust with either dynomax bullets or flowmaster 10 series delta force (the race mufflers, not the delta flow their regular series).

Wondering if anyone has run these or has any soundclips? I found one of the 10 series delta force and they sound tough.

But the roadkill muscle truck runs the dynomax bullets and that thing sounds like heaven.
