my Low dollar 318 hop-up project

Awesome videos.....!
So we're looking at about an hour per cylinder .....8 hours of work total...
Safety glasses AND ear plugs.....!

What kinds of gains will this give? (rough guess)

I like this kind of work because it's next to free....just gotta put in the time and effort!

Also, what is your opinion on hand-lapping the valves to the seats? A friend gave me the hand-held suction cup tool and fine/course lapping compound....good idea or leave it alone?

Jeff

P.S. THANKS!!!!!

:burnout:

Thanks, and yes I wear ear plugs when I do this... lol !

I can't tell you horsepower gains, but I usually drop about 4 - 5 tenths in a 1/4 mile. Component matching is key

You are also correct, because it's next to free. People will spend 300 bucks to drop 3 tenths, so this is a real bang for the buck. Your time estimation is right, about 8 hours total on the porting. Folks gotta understand that I'm not going to catch that '73 340 duster by "shooting the breeze with the buddies" over an open hood...., and when I only have 499.00 bucks to spend, and I'm behind on gearing to start with, well, it's going to take some elbow grease, not a magic wand.

LOL.... on the lapping, because that is where I'll be heading once the heads are ported and cleaned up! Budget isn't going to pay for a valve job... I will post on that when I get to that part, I do have a preference.
