Poly strut rod bushings

Trying to get (PST) poly strut rod bushings on. Not enough length to catch a thread on nut. Been researching old threads and they talk of thinning rear bushing 1/4 to 1/2". Is that still the consensus? Are there any other things to consider in this portion of Lca assembly?
