Anyone have any recommendations on shipping headers? Trying to buy a set from a member on here and we are having issues with ups and fedex wanting to charge upwards of $200 just for shipping.

What gives? Any help is appreciated.

Maybe greyhound

ups and fedex have gone to a dimensional weight deal and you get punished with a header box.

USPS , duct tape them together tape an address to it . Take it down and see what they say .
I've shipped all kinds of odd ball stuff through the mail.

I always use the USPS but just the week I shipped some valve covers and air cleaner regular ground with insurance for $160. Shipping was just shy of $40 which seemed a bit steep to me but that was the largest box I've ever shipped out though.

That is precisely the reason I got out of high temp ceramic coatings. The shipping costs were just too prohibitive.

Check out FedEx "home delivery." I've found they have better rates on large boxes than UPS. The Postal Service charges a premium on any box larger than 12 inches on any side, or over 108 inches in total diameter. Greyhound is an option too ... IF both parties are conveniently located near a bus station. You can also check with Fastenal; I've heard good things about their shipping on the Garage Journal forum though I haven't used them personally.

USPS may can ship but I need an accurate "girth" measurement. If anyone has fenderwells and you get a sec to measure that would help me out a ton.

^^^had no clue fastenal shipped items but will check them out, thanks.

You're welcome sir.

It came as a surprise to me too! If it works out please let us all know how your experience was.

As an aside, I think a shipping company could be successful if they specialized in ONLY shipping car parts. With the world wide web, the world has gotten a lot smaller, but as motorheads it seems all the stuff our cars need are on the other side of the country.

just thought everyone should know, set of headers shipped from KS to MS via USPS is only $30 bucks!!!!!

How'd you pull that off, stick a magazine in the box with them and call it Media Mail?? Last set I sent just one state away was $122. Please share your secret.

Run em through a shredder and put the "newly shaped" headers in a flat rate box? lol

as a s note, isn't it funny h ow fuel costs are way DOWN, put they still stick us on shipping costs!!!??????? and ... when diesel $$ jumps back up sooner or later, then there will be another sur charge again!?????? ha

yes the little guy just keeps on taking it in the ---?? ha but not funny!

Yeah, like I said earlier in the thread... it cost me more then that to ship valve covers and an air cleaner. Which I know would be smaller dimensions than a set of headers. Whats the secret?:D

I wasn't the one shipping, I was recieving. They were wrapped in bubble wrap individually and shipped. Arrived in perfect shape in two days!

It's probably worth noting when I called the post office i was advised they could NOT ship them. Seller was kind enough to take them up there to see what would happen and sure enough they shipped.
