68 S/S Hemi Dart hood

The hemi hoods usually have 2 rods going from top to bottom , this scoop design catches a LOT of air . with out these 2 rod's it will tear it self apart at speed . In the past I have used 2 1/4 stainless carrage bolts , grind off the small squares on the bottom of the heads , sand down the top's to remove any lettering on top and polish them to a high shine. Go to anyplace that sales knitting needles and find the extra large ones , most are made of aluminum and come in colors ....you will have to measure the to the correct length and cut them with a tubing cutter . Locate the correct place to drill 2 holes , place the carrage bolt in the hole , between the inside top of the scoop and the knitting needle place a polished 1/4 flat washer . this will keep the tubing from cutting in to the glass scoop . next you will need a second 1/4 washer to go between the tube and the hood , keeps the paint from being scratched . feed this thru a hole that you have drilled in the hood and put a nut and lock washer on it . if done correctly you can pick the hood up with them .. I picked a factory hemi hood for a 68 cuda , to use on my 67 . installed with 4 hood pins the hood would bow up several inches at speed ( 125 mph ) went back and installed 4 more hood pins helped a lot ..
