Idler arm problem? Please help

-
In looking at that pan it doesn't look like the correct C body pan to use. There's a pan on eBay with a longer and deeper indentation

one on craigs here in So. Cal. looks a little bigger $70

What about the pitman www.rareparts.com makes? Is it the same as the small block pitman or is it special for the 383? Rare parts are not dummies. They know there stuff usually.

Btw rare parts will rebuild used worn pitmans and idlers.

The pitman for a fast ratio manual will be the same as regular ratio. The ratio difference comes from the box gearing on manual A Bodies.

No, the pitman on a big block A body is specific to that application. The idler is the same for big and small blocks. If this is a real GTS it should remain correct with 893 pan. Hard to find and pricy but they are out there.

Dick at Firm Feel will probably have an answer for the op.

Hello,
I'm working on a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS. 383/4speed.
The problem: The steering linkage is hitting the oil pan on the passenger side, when you turn the steering to the right. The steering appears to be roughly the same amount of steering wheel turns in each direction. However, it appears to me that maybe the Idler arm is too short, which is bringing the linkage up to close to the oil pan on the passenger side. I'm wondering if it's the wrong idler arm? Is there a longer Idler arm that I need? Or, could it be the wrong oil pan?

It appears to me that I'm going to quickly have a hole in the oil pan, and a ruined motor. Please help. Thank you, Mike

Just curious, does your GTS have torque boxes on all 4 corners of the sub frame?

That's where 'my" PITMAN ARM comes from --for many years on the planet -- it was the
ONLY one in existence....

I am a Rare Parts Dealer -- their retail price structure is rather high.
With my dealer discount, I probably can sell you one cheaper than they do -- they
"recommend" I make a lot more profit than I actually do!!!!!!!!!

No, the pitman arm is not the same for a fast ratio box on a big block. The output shaft size on the fast ratio box is different than a standard box. Had to send a standard BB pitman back to Rare Parts because it didn't fit. They didn't have what I needed, Firm Feel knew exactly what I needed.

Did all big block darts come with torque boxes & if so did all big block barracudas ?

No, not all BB darts and barracudas came with torque boxes. Mine did not have them. I spoke with another BB Barracuda owner that confirmed that his did not either. Both of ours had bench seats, not sure if that was the reason.

Some with torque boxes on all four corners, some with them on the front, some just on the rear. There have been examples where there were torque boxes on the right front and left rear and visa versa. Some examples came without. There have been examples where torque boxes were installed on a slant6 cars.

Just wondered my 69 cuda formula s 383 4spd w/ buckets does not have them.

I don't think mopar really spent a lot of time ensuring these cars had torque boxes or not. I betcha if the bodies with torque boxes ran out for the day, they just kept building them anyhow.

Don’t pay those prices or an 893 oil pan!! eBay heavy gauge reproduction pan from vans auto and others for 200 bucks.
