Well I finally decided to install my fiberglass bumper on my 67 dart street strip ride.

Now I know that fiberglass bumpers are usually a drag only thing. I know they will offer no protection in a crash. So I'm not saying these are safe! I wanna cut weight and understand the risks.

Now that the safety disclaimer is out of the way, these bumpers are from glastek. They are super nice and will require very little work to be paint ready.

I will be using aluminum mounting brackets that I purchased from a member here. I am sorry I forgot his name.

In an attempt to maximize weight reduction and provide a clean install I purchased a set of aluminum body bolts from summit racing.

Then I went about searching for aluminum washers and nuts. I found the nuts locally but finding thick aluminum fender washers was impossible. So I made my own! I used 3/16 aluminum plate. Drilled with a 1-1/4 hole saw

Then I slid them on a screw driver and held them up to my vertical belt sander to clean the outside of them. Here they are all done.

Way to go !! There is always an alternative if you think long enough !!

Then I started the mounting process. Here you can how well the bumpers line up with the body.

Here you can see the aluminum body bolts. They give a very clean look.

Here is a crappy pic of the awesome brackets

Keeping with the light weight theme I ended up making more washers for the bumper bracket to from mounting.

I have aluminum 1/2 bolts on order for this part but here are the washers installed

Then I had to make an adjustable bracket in the outer/upper corners so that they were not flopping in the wind and so that I can adjust the alignment.

Heck, I kinda like um black. Matches the car.

Is there any silver on the car to pick up with it? If not, it might be too much contrast. Maybe somebody could photoshop them silver so you can see.

The wheels are silver lol. Think I gotta wheel it out in the sun and have a look at from a distance.

Ok, cool then that might work out. I couldn't remember any silver anywhere else. Whatever you do it will be top notch as always.

Thank you man! Just trying to go fast and still look good

agree w/ rusty, black looks pretty good. silver bumpers on everything I`ve seen, draw attention to the fact they are fake ? nice car. I swiss cheezed my bumper brackets for my fiberglass front bumper, sure helps keeping it fitting right.

Silver painted bumpers shout 'CHEAP PLASTIC'.
I would look into chrome wrapping them.

I've wrapped a pair of large taillite housings on a car of mine and no one could tell they were chrome wrapped until I pointed it out.

Nice work though!

nice work, big block is right, I painted mine silver for a little bit. made them look like cheapo plastic bumpers or bad chrome. I went body color and liked it.
in the end its your car and needs to only make you happy.
keep up the great work!

Where did you get that hood younggun??? I'm in need of a new hood and don't know which company to buy from.

i got the hood 15 yrs ago from a buddy that lived down the street from me. it has a 4" tall scoop on it. it was made with the scoop in place. not added to a flat hood. there is no identifying marks on the hood so i dont know who made it.
