There are 2 white plastic pieces on the diamond mesh of the steering column of my 68 barracuda. During the process of rebuilding I broke one of the plastic pieces and need to replace one. Does anyone know where i can get one to replace it....and what's it called?

There should be three of those total. They are the slides for the collapsible column.
That is, if we are talking about the same thing.
Tony

I only saw two on there, they are on the outside of the steering column itself
They're about 1/2" square I think, and they have four prong like clips (one on each corner) and they clip onto the diamond mesh about an 1 1/2" apart from each other. I sure need to find some.

I have to replace the white clips on my steering column that I broke when I took the car apart. Assuming you have the same thing, I did a search on eBay and eventually came across a set of three together that I needed. This is what I bought. Not sure if these are what you are looking for.

If that's what yer looking for all the old ones ive seen are brittle as hell.
Maybe try RT Specialties for repops?

But post pics we are all guessing here.

I purchased new ones at my local dealer in 09 part number 4600185, $4.30 each!

I worked in a Chrysler/Plymouth parts department in the 80's that's were I learned "suggested list price" is just that Suggested..... we upped the price a few % on everything.

What he is describing sounds nothing like what you guys are posting:protest:

That's a new one for me. I don't recognize or recall ever seeing those before.
Do you know their purpose ?

New to me too Ben. No idea what those are.
Thanks for the pic, can you get a closer one?
I wonder if they are aftermarket and were used to "hold/tuck/hide" loose wires??

I'm trying to get some more pics, but my phone is not cooperating. These are clipped onto the steering column itself, I'm not sure what their purpose is. ..I thought maybe a spacer between the column and dash frame? As soon as I can get some close up shots, I will post them.

They changed what they had to when they committed to the lower dash pads in 68 model. There might have been a spot where 2 parts created a squeak noise. All guess work on my end. I can say I have a 68 floor shift automatic, power steer column just as it was pulled from the car in my collection. I'll look again for something similar but... If yours was column shift or manual trans, all bets are off. Even forces from the clutch pedal could have created a noise and a need in that 1 year model.
Edit for additional wild and crazy thought... Could these be the guts of a column mounted reverse lamp switch ?

Mine is a 68 console shift automatic, I pulled the steering column out to rebuild it and removed these from the column to have it powder coated and when I was putting it together. .I broke one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Every Mopar steering column I have seen (on untouched cars) have them. They helps to support the outer steering tube near the center , and help it still turn in case of column collapse due to frontal collision. Most of them , on most cars have become brittle and fallen off over the years. They are not really functionally necessary. All of the columns I have restored for my cars have had them in place. Doing the GTS column now

Yes...thats what I'm looking for, do you know if there are any replacements to be found anywhere? Thank you for your help.

I found them on my columns too. Never noticed them before.
One has a limb broken and gone so I figure I would break them all trying to remove them. If not, you could break them at install.
There are more critical small pieces to worry about that also are not reproduced. First best example that comes to mind is the little lever glides in 68 to 72 climate controllers.
In that case of need you'll hope to buy a used climate controller with less wear.
Good luck

A guy just had some on a column he was parting out over on FBBO. I contacted him, but they were already gone. I'm sure there are some laying around Carlisle. I actually need one more myself. Broke one getting it off.

Am I lost?? Lol Those pieces Moparmitch posted DO NOT mount in the mesh of the column. They mount in the support bracket.
Also HR the pics of pieces you posted are NOT the same as Moparmitch pieces. IF the pieces u need are the same as Moparmitch white plastic pieces I may have some.

Steve. Look at the pic I posted. The clips in question are located in the mesh section of the column in my pic (gotta look close). The other ones that just happen to be in the pic are for mounting the column. Also look at post #11. Those are the ones he is looking for. Actually I could use a few myself for a correct restoration. :D:D
