I have always been wondering if there was ever a 360 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission that made out of the factory? I always hear about the 318 4-speeds and the 340 4-speeds, but never any 360 4-speeds. As I said, I'm not sure if there were ever made out of the factory like that, but that's why I'm asking you guys. Also if there was not, would it be possible to put a 340 4-speed transmission setup on a 360 engine? I know you would have to change the flywheel, but I'd thought I would ask still. Any answers are appreciated, I'm just curious. Thanks!

I'm sure there were, I did not go around counting them. No reason you could not pout a 340 setup on a 360 BUT YOU NEED a weighted flywheel to match the 360

Yes Chrysler built 360 4-speeds. Dusters and Dart Sports in 1974, 1975 for sure. They shared parts from the 340 like exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds and I'm sure flywheels. The 74 360 actually made more power than the 73 340 it replaced.

You can purchase a new flywheel right from mopar for a 360

Awesome okay thanks for telling me! I love manuals and I'm considering it for my 360 build, but since my Valiant is an automatic I'm probably going to have to keep it that way and use a 727 transmission.

360 4 speed in a car, one year only 1974. Special flywheel. The old Mopar performance modification book (Chassis Manual) had a 360 Flywheel blue print in it. I used a 340 flywheel ( zero balanced forged crank) and had a machinist drill (as indicated on the blue print) 3 holes to convert it to a 360 flywheel Cast crank external balanced). It worked perfect just as the book said it would!

1974 and 1975 were the only year I know of as stated above for the 360 4 speed . As far as putting a 4 speed setup behind one, no problem, you will just need a flywheel that is balanced for it. I got mine at 440 source, I believe there around $150 new, and come with weights so it can be used either zero balance or external balance which is what 360's were stock. I may be wrong, but I thought the 73 340 was external balance as well, but not positive on that.

1045 Billet Steel Flywheel - New

Item Number: 113-1014

Unit Price: $149.95

Our brand new heavy-duty billet flywheels are fully CNC machined from high quality 1045 super hard billet steel. The ring gear is made from high manganese carbon steel for accuracy and superior wear resistance. Ring gear is 130 tooth, weight is 27 pounds, and the overall diameter is 13.19 inches. The diameter of the machined face (without the ring gear) is about 12.5 inches. These fit a standard six bolt crank flange. The larger of the two bolt patterns measures 11 5/8" across (bolt hole center to center) and has 6 bolts evenly spaced around the outside of the wheel. These are very similar to the Mopar Performance part# P4529142 and McLeod #464102. Fits ALL Mopar V8 engines (even small blocks!) Works with 10.5 inch clutch only. These can be used for either internal or external balance applications. They include a small weight which is bolted to the back of the flywheel. For internal balance applications, simply remove this bolt-on weight. For external balance applications, when the engine is being balanced with the flywheel attached, your balance shop can remove material from the supplied bolt-on weight as needed to bring the engine into balance. For factory pre-balanced applications such as cast crank, six pack, etc, Brewers performance carries specific external weights for these applications, available HERE

You are correct, 73 340 and 360 have a different balance.
If you need a sfi flywheel mcleod sells a nice one that you can use on any engine, just change the balance weight.
FYI magnum 360 is balance different from LA 360.

74 360 with a 4 speed...only year in a car.
Drill out a good used 318/340 (used the same flywheel) factory zero balanced forged crank unit as per the chassis manual from Mopar and there ya go. I did it works great! Now you have a 360 cast crank flywheel...done as the factory did it, it's just that simple. :)

...........I have a 74 duster, and have had a 75 dart sport, and a 74 cuda that were all 360 4 gear cars..............kim......

Couldn't you get an F-body 360 4 speed roadrunner? A friend of mine had what he claimed to be one but I never checked the numbers to verify it.

wasn't 74 the last year for the four speed ,introducing a 3 speed OD in 75 ??
just askin ?? :burnout:

So if the trans is made for the A and F body cars in the mid 1970s would the linkage for the clutch and z bar interchange as well?

Trucks were available with the 360 and 4 speed well into the 80s in trucks I believe. But they were the 833 OD.

I'm attempting to identify a 4 speed I got from my father this past week. It is an aluminum 4 speed with a Hurst shifter numbers on the case are as follows
C13546B
09813831
C99539
Thanks in advance.

That's a truck transmission. A833 OD.

Yes, but you will have to fab a shifter relocation bracket and cut the drive shaft.
The a/f body location and the b/c/e body location bosses are the only ones mentioned in my books. Style, length and height of the stick shift are the only other variables I am aware of.

Will it fit an f body?
You can swap the mainshaft and extension housing to make it an A/F body trans. I did that with my 1970 heavy duty A833 with the bigger 308 bearings. Bought a custom extension housing from Jamie Passon because there is no factory A-body piece for the bigger bearing.
