I'd love to replace the lap belts in my 68 Cuda for something more safe but can't think of a way to secure the over-the-shoulder section since I don't have a cage/bar in my car. My car has bucket seats from a 1990 Mitsu Eclipse (don't laugh, they actually look nice and are very comfortable and were real cheap) and the headrests are a unique design that slide up and down the seat rather than extend out on rods like others do so I can't just run the straps through them. Does anyone here have any ideas?

68 model should have had front shoulder belt, separate from the lap belt, from factory.
The bolt hole is directly above where door glass and quarter glass create a line. Maybe someone replaced the headliner and deleted those belts. Maybe you are speaking rear shoulder belts.

I ran into a problem at the track on night with a lap belt. I was staged and waiting for the other guy to roll into the beams when all of a sudden the guy working the lights starts tapping on my window. I pointed at my lap belt and looked up to see tail lights.

It was just test and tune but after that I put my should trap on every time.

My 68 Dart has only lap belts as well, Jan 1, 1968 was the date all vehicles in front outside positions were required to have lap and shoulder harness. I was looking at doing the same thing, but without a roll bar to attach the harness to, I am not too sure how safe it would be? But anything would be better than 48 year old lap belts. I have seen a 4 point harness go back to the package shelf on some road race type street cars. They used a 2 inch piece of angle iron under the tray and 2 eye bolts for a set of harnesses to hook to. They only used them at the track and unhooked the belts when done so they could use the back seat. It would be ok for a head on type crash but not sure it would hold you in the seat on a side type crash?

Sorry guys I didn't clarify but mine did originally have shoulder belts but the elastic that holds the shoulder part up is shot letting it dangle. Plus they just aren't comfortable because it catches me across the neck. That's why I'd like to replace them with a harness. Been considering a 4 point roll bar just to have something to mount them too but it's a lot of work for something that only gets raced once every 2 or 3 yrs. At the moment I haven't been able to think of any other way to mount them. Just thought I'd throw it out in case anyone has figured out a fairly easy way. Appreciate all the replies
