67 and 69 Barracuda b/u housings

The zits happened BECAUSE OF the composition of the metal. On any given day at the steel plant, pot metal (sometimes called "monkey metal") is made from the leftovers, all melted together, which was then used to mold emblems, mirror housings, door handles, etc. The incompatibility of the contents is what makes it so unpredictable and appear to corrode in odd ways.

As far as powder coating it goes, any excess zinc, pewter or low-melting-point metals -- and especially air bubbles frequent in casting molds -- will blow up and expand under heat. It can create one or a whole minefield of bubbles or outright blowouts which all then need to be addressed. Sometimes it works flawlessly and other times it doesn't. It's a crap shoot in deciding whether to get it done and a decision only you should make. The variances in the metal can be extreme from one batch to the next. Not many in my industry will even attempt it.
