Hello . Need some help here . Sent my 8 3/4 third member out to shop and had a new set of 323 gears put in it . I ordered a set of RP 400 Green bearings for it which are a sealed non adjustable bearing . I am getting all kinds of different opinions on the subject of removing the thrust buttons in third member . My question is .Can anyone tell me or show me how this is done in detail as I am not educated on this at all . Don't want to put my third member in and have to pull it back out . And do these buttons need to be their . Thanks , I appreciate all the help I can get on this

You have to take it out to use the green bearing since it is a part the axle adjuster system. It should have been taken out when they redid the center. It's a bit of a pain when it's all back together. But you may be able to use a tiny curved pick to seperate the 2 pcs and maybe an extendable magnet.

So these don't need to be in their at all . I wont have any trouble if I remove them ?

...if you haven't used the green bearings yet you might consider
putting original tapered roller bearings on.
they are a better bearing and are easily adjusted in a few minutes.

They are only there to set the preload on the tapered roller bearing by allowing the axles to touch each other via the buttons. Not needed for the green bearings and may cause a problem.

Yes , I had thought about that . But already purchaced the bearings

Thank you that helps out a lot. So I can just take them out.. Their not needed with the use of green bearings ?

Here we go again . Some say to pull them . Some say not too . My question is . Should I pull them just to be safe ? they are not needed unless I am using the original tapered bearings , Correct ? I would rather pull before I put the center section back in . Should be much easier

My axles are the same length as the originals.

Because MO-400 (snap-ring style) Green bearings move the axle OUTWARD slightly, the thrust buttons can remain intact.

Because RP-400 (crimped-on flange style) Green bearings move the axle INWARD slightly, the thrust buttons must be removed.

test fit it all first.

if the axles fit with the buttons in there then don't remove them.

if the axles don't fit with the buttons in there then remove them..

see how simple that is..

With OEM axles there is a good chance that the buttons will need to come out. Often the two axles touch the button and you can't install the outside wheel bearing covers without distorting them. Might as well remove it now, right?

Here is your correct answer. Personally I take them out when using green bearings on DictatorDiff axles or Moser axles (these are the only axles I have used).

That's not a correct answer. That's just your way of doing it.

The correct answer is if they need to come out then take them out. If they don't need to come out then leave them alone.
