Hello all. Like most of us money is gettin tight. My project is very close to being finally on the road. 67 Dart with headers 318 running duels to the back. This is what im trying to do. I have mufflers and straight pipe now to rear axle on hangers. I talked to the fellow whos going to certify the Dart. He told me as long as the exhaust comes out from the car (within reason) like in frt of rear wheels it would pass. So, Since i have the majority of the exhaust im woundering if any have done this. I can get pre bent 90s,45s and so on. Im not sure if you can just shorten up the straight pipe to mufflers and then bring them out? Were would you mount to? Im using hangers now at rear seat belt bolt area. Any pics or help in this matter is so appreciated you dont know. Trying to save and do all i can. Thanks in advance.

You could shorten your pipe or find mufflers like the AAR/TA that have inlet and outlet on the same end..... I don't think there is much room to move the mufflers forward because of the floor pan.

Thats what i was thinking......mufflers i have are new:violent1:

Save up a little longer.
I collect bear cans/bottles, copper, brass, and batteries.I don't smoke or drink, and there's no point in buying condoms anymore, cuz the wife has closed up shop.My life sucks.lol

I waited 21 years. including 4 years of assembly, and then;4 more years of fine tuning. And I never did get a decent interior into it.So still working on it since 95.

If you can't afford 2 pipes and 2 hangers;how are you gonna buy gas for that monster?

Like this maybe?
I bought the pipe and had the shop 45 the ends, and cut them off at the exact angles I needed back at the house.

The pipes crossed on the stand are tacked and ready for welding up and the two ends closest together go on the mufflers.
The other ends were left long until I got that section fitted to the mufflers so I could see where to cut them.

Where they went under the subframe connectors I sliced them and angled them up a little on the ends, and they are bologna cut on the ends to the same line as the car body.
(meaning looking down from the top of the fender the ends follow the same angle as the body.

I welded J hangars that I made from 5/16 rod to the top edge of the subframe connectors and to the pipes so I could use the type of rubber hangar you see below.

Oh, and it was all gas bottle tig welded.
And yes, the pipes totally cross through each other for reverberation dampening.
It sounds mean as hell for a basically stock block 318. :D

Stock 318, factory exhaust manifolds, dual purple hornies mufflers, no "H" pipe.

I still don't get how something making a U is high flow.

in and out 'turbo' style mufflers usually have an S turn in them. If they come out the same side, there is only 1 direction change. It probably doesnt make a lick of difference in flow.

Thanks Pishta, thats good to know. Its a stock 318/904 auto combo with a 600 Holey carb and headers......FOR NOW! Still have young ones at home and we all know expenses in that,LOL.

I appreciate all the help and insight in this regard. I got the exhaust done but went out the rear. I couldnt pass up the deal......Saved me alot. Thanks again everyone

The T/A and AAR exhaust was more restrictive than the standard 340 exhaust that went all the way to the rear...

It was just for looks, more than performance...
