What's your favorite old school Japanese car?

I always thought the Jaguar XKE's were kinda cool - with the V12 of course - convertible. I thought the hard top cars were odd looking.

Spent my summers growing up driving around Northern New Jersey with my Dad doing estimates for his gutter business...became very fond of his 72 Datsun pick up. Think it was a 620 if I remember right. Little truck took a beating over the years. Was the first vehicle I did a motor r&r on by myself...think I was 9 or 10.
Dad taught me how to drive in it. He let me drive on the roads when I was 9. All was going well....until I rolled up at a traffic light...next to my mother...

I bought a 1971 Datsun 510 2D sedan in 1971 when my 66 chevelle burned to the ground. That car was a little rocket and way ahead of its time. I put a "Starsky & Hutch" Imron paint job on it and it turned heads all over town. Went to work one day-wife put a "For Sale $500 sign on it and when I came home it was gone and I had $500 and no car.
DR----------------

That's when you sell her daily driver and use the money to buy another "toy".... :finga:

I'd really like to build one of these with a third gen Hemi. The guy I bought my 340 from has a 240z with a Mopar small block in it that he only wants $2,500ish for...

I learned to drive a stick in (I think) an early 80s Datsun B210. One was dead and my dad kept it behind the house. I used to jump in and practice with the clutch and shifter. The operational one I ultimately learned to actually shift on. I think the practice helped...lol. But I liked the rwp, manual trans old-school Datsuns and Toyotas.

"Old Datsun" story

In the late seventies, early eighties I sold auto / truck parts, heavy hardware, logging supplies, turned drums and rotors, and made hydraulic and other hoses. Once in awhile, "fixed" welders

Anyhow an elderly guy came in and plopped a starter up on the bench, and says, "Can you send this in and have it rebuilt?"

"Sure, but we might have one."

"Doubt it," says he. (we didn't).

"What's it out of?"

"That old Datsun out front."

There sits one of the older "round nose" Datsun pickups, a 67? or so?

So I asked him, "How in heck you start that thing? Park on a hill?"

"Naw, just use the crank" he says

THEN IT DAWNED on me why the JACK tool is a big long crank, you 'member those? You stuck it in the rear of the bed to winch the spare down (when THAT worked) and it also raised the jack.

Turns out it was ALSO an outgrowth of "when they had cranks."

Friend of mine had a later Datsun 510, and it still had the engine crank fitting on the dampener, although the radiator was in the way LOL

Love the styling of the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R, it's got the aggressive muscle-car-esque styling to it but still classic Japanese. also like the FJ-40's too and a couple more I can't name off the top of my head.

Wow best looking Japanese car I've ever seen.

The prices on them are insane though!

i love cars in general, i love MOPARS the most but i also enjoy some others. i've had quite a few 280's in Turbo and NA form. my fav was my first, 1981 Turbo, every option and Blue. 81's were auto only but it would pull red line ( about 6k ) in every gear. ran hi 14's 1/4 mile and would do 132 mph consistently in stock form.
about 15 years ago i got into the Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest cars. i have done many different set ups with these, and have a few buddy's who went crazy with them. from MPI to engine swaps they are always fun. one bud in TX runs his 1/8 mile, usually high 5's with the 54b 2.6L, yes inline 4 2.6L BUT pushing about 35 psi. others are using the 2JZ motors getting about 700 HP to the wheels. me ? i'm MOPAR so here's mine~ Moparbishi

I do love the 69 GTR, but I like the fastback style of the 73 GTR a little more.

What car had a twin stick? 4 speed and an 2 speed transfer for a total of 8 fwd and 2 rev gears?

A friend of mine had one of those in high school.

Is this "old school" enough?

Acura NSX

I remember saying to myself..."I should buy one of these while they're only 6,000 bucks....."

Same thing I said about 67-77 porsche 911 and triumph TR6
