over winter I rebuilt er and reverse is acting jammed in a way? It's not the linkage. I grabbed the shifter leaver with some vice grips and had to give ot some serious mussel - like to much...
any ideas would be great. Thank you .....

If it wasn't for bad luck, you may not have any luck...... Sorry to hear it and hope it's an easy fix for ya....

Try Loosening the side cover and tap it up a tad.

My dad rebuilt his 833 and had the same issue and that fixed his.

the reason it doesn't work is, there is a shoe on 1,2 lever and on reverse lever, they have to match. loosen up side cover, shift trans into reverse , tighten side cover back down. end of problem!!!!

ok, I looked in my 1968 service manual under trans. it states , shift into reverse before tightening down side cover. if it doesn't work , then change the 1,2 shift arm. either to a A 0r B lever. which are selective in cam size!!! just food for thought .

Thank you ! I really felt good about the build. It kinda surprised me a little that things weren't right, but as 318willrun said if it wasn't for bad luck ......

Fixed ! Fixed ! ! Fixed ! !! Fabo is #1 !!!!
Well as was told I started getting clean jugs out ready to empty out the fresh oil out of the fresh transmission. just for s**** and giggles I went ahead and just loosened the nuts around the cover just enough to get it to move, but somehow not enough to let any oil leaked out and I put it in reverse and I just lightly tapped up words on the cover and all of a sudden the shifter was shifting freely! then I tightened everything back up hook the linkage back up and "Presto"! I am extremely happy right now and eager to give the car a proper test drive tomorrow. thank you everyone!
I hope all the explanation marks aren't out of line but simple fixes like this don't come by often.
