Anyone like the Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter?

-
Lots of guys here seem to prefer the cheetah...I personally like hurst...

Had good luck ,with mine. The Cheetah's sweet, too expensive for my budget.

I have one in my 71 duster with a benchseat and it works just fine for me
I did not like the gear indicator on it, but I am working on that
the one thing that you need to be carefull with is running the cable away from the headers...I think the cheetah may have the cable exiting on the rear, making that not an issue

My Dad recommended the Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter for my build...

It looks pretty cool, anyone else recommend it?
Yep, best looking one on the market.

B&M pro ratchet for the win...

What I got after the pro matic.

Had problems with both, with header heat on the cables.
Got 4 spd, problem solved#-o

I had one in my GTX it's ok but like COPE, my pick is the B&M Pro Ratchet. I used the B&M in 3 different cars.Just a thought...

I like mine, but no one else knows how to use it cept for you. :D

It took a bit to get used to how it moves to put it in park or reverse, but now it's just second nature.
A good shot of something like graphite spray once in awhile is fairly mandatory to keep it free and smooth.
I have the Hurst Aluminum T handle instead of the ball.

i ran that shifter for years, great unit never miss a gear, reverse lock out etc good piece.

I use that under my stock console in my 65, looks stock 'cept for the "Hurst", and they were stock in 65 manuals so people dont notice it, but the ball is different. It takes a few tries to get used to the lifting of the shifter to get in R and P, Valets hate it.

Your car,is fun to drive.Had a great afternoon, Greg.😁

I have one in my 67 Coronet. I am running the truck version as it has a longer handle and works great with a bench seat and almost gives a look of a 4-speed. Shifter seems to be working good now but did have its problems when I first installed. I found it very finicky to get the adjustment just right so it would go in all gears. The other problem I had and was already mentioned is the recommended cable routing calls for it to exit front of shifter through the floor then loop out front and come back to trans linkage. The problem with that is if you have headers it will melt the cable no matter how much you tie it back or wrap the cable. Ask me how I know:banghead:
I purchased another cable and routed it from the front but around the transmission case on the passenger side and then back across the front of the transmission pan and then into the transmission linkage. No problems since and I even wrapped it with some heat sleeving just to make sure. Its real tight though when you route this way but seems to work. Could use another cable that is about 2-3" longer.
Will try and post a couple pics later.

I like mine. I run it with a reverse manual valve body on the street and it gets plenty of exercise. I wrapped my cable with rubber fuel hose in the area where it runs close to a header pipe. Had to readjust it once, but that was pretty easy.

Yea, me to too thank you.

You are correct about it being a little touchy about the adjustment at first.
When I changed to the rubber/metal pan gasket I had to readjust it and that took about 5 tries before I got it just right.
Once adjusted though, it stays.

I've been running one for several years. I Remember when I took it in to get tires mounted and the young guy sat in there for 2 minutes and got back out. I just laughed and gave him a quick tutorial on how to get it to move:D I have had not one problem with mine and I like the fact that it has the switches mounted for neutral.

Been running that shifter since the late 80`s w/great results. Simple, no stupid levers to lift and detents to a nice neutral position after shifts..............

I have one in my 1965 Cuda, I like its simple operation a lot. I did have to replace the cable once, the cable routing when I bought the car was too close to the starter and shorted it out. With a new cable properly routed I have had no problems.

As far as the heat is concerned,if it comes close to exh/headers you could try some sort of shielding on the cable.

I put it under my console I like the look .....
