I did a search, and have the schematics. The motor and trans are still out of my 71 duster. there are a lot of unhooked wires under the hood. I do have a good chassis ground and decided to hook up battery to locate dash lites to connect gauges, and looking for ign on power for tach and fuel pump relay. I noticed i only have the drivers side brake lite working. Also the tail lite on the pass side comes on with the bulb out of the socket? Its the brown wire, i traced it so far to the plug behind the drivers front kick panel, the green has power which is the driver brake lite. but no power on the brown.

Unless i got crossed some place on the diagrams this brown wire looks like it makes its way to the Pos side of the coil? is this right. do i need to have all the engine compartment wires connected to get this sorted out?

No you've got two separate circuits with the brown.

The tail power makes it's way up front, through the kick panel connector, and to the headlight switch

The turn signals, which are brake lights, hook up individually to the turn signal switch.

Ok i am wondering if i have a ground issue or if i need to have all the wires connected in the engine bay to make this work?

Ok that makes no sense, as i never touched the steering wheel or switches? the car has 20,000 miles and nobody has messed with the wiriing.

I wont panic yet. It all worked before it came apart to go to the body shop. Will wait till its running before i start looking. Most likely its a ground issue some place.

Brown wire is tail lamp circuit. Rear brake lamps are 2 different color wires, green and yellow. See basic trailer hitch harness. Wire to electric washer pump is also brown. I've seen that one connected to ballast resistor once before. Never view wire diagrams through beer goggles.

Now i am told by fellow Dodge guy that its in the signal lite sw? could be interesting that would just start acting up.

You can get "tricked" down the wrong path by bad grounds at the sockets or SHORTED BULBS. (Or wrong bulbs) Bulbs can "burn" inside and the remnants of one filament can fall over and weld to the other. This can produce interesting results....like both lamps blinking when the opposite flasher is on, etc

So try this........pull out both rear bulbs. While out, test them on a battery for both filaments.

Then access the turn signal connector coming out the column. Consult the factory manual for the colors

You have flasher power going IN. This is hot with the key in "run" You can jumper the flasher socket if necessary

The brake switch power is going IN, this is hot anytime the brake pedal is depressed.

Check both those are present on both sides of the connector

Then check the rear two wires going out to left and right. You should have power on both wires when brake is depressed, and power on left or right when the switch is in appropriate position.

MAKE SURE the 4X hazard switch is "off"

You can download free service manuals over at MyMopar. Some of them came from the guys here at FABO

Below is the TS switch

The top wire, an 18ga White, is stop light switch power going INTO the TS switch

Fourth wire down, 18ga Red, is power going in from the TS flasher

Second and third, BRown and GreeN are the left and right rear turn / stop lamp wires

From there, they go down to the connector for the rear harness in the left kick panel, then to the rear
