1963-64 Tail lights

-
I am up for a couple of pairs of 63 and 64 - same lens body but the 64 adds the chrome trime rings. note that the 63 and 64 wagon look similar but are different - would love a set of 64 wagon lenses too!

isee sometimes the wagon taillight lens show up on feebay. they do not sell. should be able to get nice set cheap.

I have an unknowning feebayer sell me a set for a wagon. he had to pay shipping to and from. I think he didn't know what he had.

the chrome trim is missing so many times and that is needed to go with new lens IMHO

I would be very interested in a pair of both!
plastic headlight bezels at a fairly cheap price would be a decent seller, I would think.
Those 64 bezels are so pricey, I just painted mine the same color as the car, they dont look as crappy anymore! but I would buy a couple of sets in case one or both got damaged.

reasonably priced clear backup lenses and headlight bezels for a 64 valiant have my interest.

thanks.

Its hard to get the color right as you need to premix the red into the clear resin. Itll take a few cured prototypes against the originals to get the mix right. Press on! There is a 3D printer at the store that can print in metallic powders now!

Start out with the 63 & 64s and see where it goes, maybe you end up repopping other years also. Even if you help out 1 person looking for them, you will be a lifesaver to their project. Good luck!

Digging up last year's post here, but I would love to know if this panned out here. My 64 dart needs new lenses and I won't cry about the chrome bezel...

Before forging ahead, run a cost analysis to see what you'd have to charge for lenses. David Azzopardi in Australia already makes very good quality tail light, reverse light, and front turn signal lenses for (at least) '60-'69 Valiants and Barracudas and '63-'73 Darts, for affordable money. He's usually slow to respond to enquiries, but he does very craftsmanlike work; his lenses are real nice.

Might want to start in with parts that can't be had in good quality and/or for reasonable money and/or at all, like headlight rings for '63-'64 Dart and '63-'65 Valiant/Barracuda.

Re 1964 Valiant, a seller in Mexico sells the rear red lenses. I bought a few years ago. Haven't installed, but the price was too nice to pass up. They look OK (red plastic w/ prisms), but I am not a lens connoisseur.

Yep, those Mexican '64, '65, and '66 Valiant and Barracuda tail lenses are good quality for super cheap money.

That's these and these (he doesn't have '64 Valiant items listed right now, but probably if you write and ask he'll put up a set).

Not all the Mexican lenses are this nice; the '71-'73 Dart items are "meh", though the '73-'76 Dart Sport items are fine.

Probably the same Mexican guy that made tail lite lens for my 65 Cuda year or so ago. IT was excellent quality, maybe have been slighter lighter, but great price, and not that long for shipping!!!!! Lens for 63 and 4 darts are rare and expensive used on feebay.

Today when I see "Hecho en Mexico" on a box, I think comparable quality to Canada & U.S. Northern Mexico seems to have many highly-skilled engineers trained in Manufacturing, comparable to the Sao Paulo, Brazil area. Of course, Germany and Japan still seem to be the apex of quality. China is a mixed bag. I have seen bad products w/ "Made in India" lately, particularly for my M-B cars.

I ordered a set of those for my 64 Valiant and one cracked on installation and one didn't fit at all.

Ya, the ones I got are for a 64 but the one that cracked had the screw hole and supprting plastic at the wrong angle and the other appears to have been molded with a bit of a twist overall.

I just bought a pair from Layson's after being on a two-year waiting list, the cost was US$192 each, so by the time they landed here in Australia they cost around $600, not arguing with that, at that time there was nowhere else to get them, one NOS pair on eBay went for over US$900!
What I got was heaps better than the faded, cracked ones on the car, although the chrome rings don't fit particularly well, and when I quizzed Layson's the reply was that was how their supplier manufactures them, and they didn't even seem to take my comments as "constructive feedback", or whatever...
Not trying to rain on your party, but if you're going to do them, you will need to find out if/who anybody is already doing this, then better their quality, and/or match that price.
Also, according to SlantSixDan, you guys are already getting these lenses from an Australian manufacturer? I'll find that thread and update you.
Good Luck with the project! Here's a photo of the Layson's lenses...

Sorry, I should have read ALL the replies!
Anyway, here's the link to DAMAX who are in Australia, and apparently manufacture these lenses, in fact they have an image of the exact lens on their Home Page. I have left a couple of enquiry emails over the last couple of months, no reply thus far.
AUSTRALIAN made - exported world wide
Also, the link to my earlier thread regarding the same lenses...

David A (of Damax) has always been slow to communicate—I think it's a Gary Goers situation; he's running more or less a one-man show . I have repeatedly found him worth the wait.

I sent him an email, asking if they had any on hand. He told me to check with layson's first and then get back to him if they are out of stock. Is that what you had to do?
