Center section

So I just picked up a new center section. 489 case with 456 gears and spool. All new, fella said he had it built 5 years ago and never installed it. Should I atleast pattern it before install?

..............I would, cause if its not right u will have paper weights really fast......u will also be able to shave with the pinion..........kim........

I always do, and record the backlash at four places around the ring gear.
