Ive got my cam in now. Looking to set up lash tonight. Ive got solid lifters and a 528 cam in a 360. Crane 1.6 roller rockers on EQ Magnum heads. I've seen guys say 26/28 is good. Just looking for some input. Thanks!

I believe that is what MP recommends for lash, I have ran my MP solid cam at 22/24 also, no seat of the pants difference but it was a little quieter.

Go with whatever the specs are, I run a .576 lift solid and it calls for 16/16, so that's what its gets.

Run my 340 with the 528 at 20/22 for lash IIRC

From what I see, MP says 28/32. That seems a bit loose to me. But I don't know much. Lol
Any benefit to running it looser during break in or does it matter?

I wanted to make a smart-alec comment about checking the cam card. But when I thought about, it came to me that you might not have one.But then another thought occurred to me; if he doesn't have the card, how did he degree it? So,then I had no more thoughts.

Hahaha. My cam kit did not come with a card. I was pretty shocked at that. In the process of setting degree and lash tonight.

Mechanical cams can have the lash varied to see what runs best for your particular combo. I would start out wide, like MP recommends and maybe see how it runs there and for comparisons sake readjust to a narrow lash. It's not hard to do and you may surprise yourself.

Well then, I suppose you have the tools, and the knowledge, to dial it in, to a predetermined number you have in mind; so I can't smart-alec that either?

Thats probably what I'll end up doing. Thanks!

Now just to see if I want to advance the cam any or leave it at 0*......

I put mine in at 107 ICL

The cam is cut on a 112 LSA IIRC

Start at .020/.022 COLD then check them hot.

There is no reason in the world to run them where Chrysler says. All it does is make noise and beat parts to death.

We ended up putting the cam at 108. We set the valves at 28/32, but after reading the comments about how sloppy it is, I may tighten it up a bit.

The Isky .510 solid in my 340 is 16/20 iirc. (Been a while since I've adjusted them and the engine is in pieces.) Pretty quiet valve train other than the roller rockers humming along.
Main thing is to not hang the valves open hot. Too much and the pushrod can pop out.

71Valiant, that is a GOOD cam you will love it ! I ran mid 11's with that cam and it was mild on the street too. Good vacuum with that cam. I ran mine @ .024/.026 never a problem. Wicked sounding too.

Im not an expert by no means but anything above .022 doesnt seem right
for solid lift cam. Could be wrong though.

D.

You gotta keep the lash tight enough to be on the clearance ramp, else the cam will shock the valve-train, and besides that being hard on parts,it will be noisy with all that crashing going on.Maybe noisy is to quiet a word.

I remember a certain red 68GTX-440 showed up at my door, with the engine clattering away. The owner hopped out and asked is this normal?, and proceeded to re-tell me his story. He had been by a few times to discuss his combo. He wanted to race and trounce his brother, who had a highly modified Buick GN turbo. I told him to forget about it. I said just build a nice street motor, something you can have great pleasure in touring around with on weekends.I had come to know this fellow over the span of a few years, and we had been bantering the subject about, over the course of time. He had wanted me to oversee the build, but I had declined because of his unrealistic goals. So now here we are with his grand race engine sounding like an old threshing machine.
I said no that doesn't sound normal. Take it back to the race shop where you had the work done, and get them to relash the beast. He did, they did, and it came back purring like a kitten.
The GN still keeps showing him the way home. And he keeps throwing money at that beautiful GTX. And now he has a car that sits in the garage about 99% of the time, and although it is fast, and sorta quick, it still follows the GN to the traps. When the 440 was stock, he used to drive it everywhere, whenever he was home,(he worked out of province). Now, I haven't seen him, driving that car, in a few years.... :(

Thanks for all the lash input. We are redoing the lash tonight. Probably going to start out with 24/26 to see how it goes.
