Is there an application to convert my 61 Valiant to disk but keep my 13 inch rims? Or is their a 14 inch rim that my factory dogdish hubcaps will fit on?

I don't think the 13" will clear discs-- even the scarebird conversion-- most 14" rims will & the dog dish works on them,

your dog caps are probably the bigger earlier ones. that's a bigger center part of the rim. a pre ???? 67 or 6 rim?? there ate out there .......somewhere!!!

Bill don't think that is the case with the 13" wheels-- the bigger caps are 14" wheels & the diameter is close to 10" for the dish-- the valiants I had all had 9" diameter wheel centers & most dog dish caps fit without any issues, Lawrence

Here ya go.... :)

Zephyr,
So I had the same questions/issues with my 64 Barracuda, same front end as yours. So you could put a Kelsey/Hayes set up on it or the 76 Dodge Dart big caliper (what I did). With the Big Calipers you will have to use spacers or grind down some caliper meat, and use either a different upper control arm or put in a tapered bushing on the upper ball joint. I should have put the KH set up, I forget if you will need a different upper control arm I think so or again use the tapered bushing on the control arm, I am going to put the KH on next year.

KH set up will run you around 1000 bucks, but worth it, You can use the 5.5 small bolt pattern steelies that your dog dish will fit.

I am no expert but I did research this for about a year.

If you made it work with 13s, that makes you the expert

I had a 70Swinger 340 with the KHers on it. She came with 14 x 5.5wheels and I fit the common dogdish caps on there no problemo. The year was 1971, the caps were late 60s, I think they mightabin off my 65Valiant wagon, which had 13s.

The only way it could even potentially be done would be to shorten the scarebird bracket to accomadate a smaller radius, and then go out on your own to find a caliper/rotor combo that fits. And good luck with that; as it is the scarebird kit uses calipers to a discontinued chevy and a rotor off a JDM toyota. Who knows the obscure lengths youd have to go through to find a smaller match that works together

I had disk brakes on a 71 Honda AN600, 10 inch tires.......I dont even remember what the rotors looked like. But the old pads I found in the 'boot' were about as big as a pack of Lucky Strikes.

I have to ask why? Tire selection is poor with 14" wheels. I can't imagine buying tires for 13s that would be worth driving on...

If I had to guess, stock hubcaps. I wanted to run 13s for the hubcaps but It just wasn't gonna happen, theres basically no 13" tires in production. To the OP, if hubcaps are your concern, you can measure and cut the top off a dog-dish cap and carefully mate it to your hubcap so it sits in the center. On 14" wheels this'll leave a half inch gap you can spray chrome, silver or black to make inconspicuous.

You can run 1 inch wheel adapters (not spacers) with the Kelsey Hayes brakes. That's what I do, but I'm tempted to send my wheels to Stockton Wheels or Wheel Vintiques and just have the offset changed which would provide the necessary clearance.
