Will a early a ball and trunion 4 speed trans fit in a later 67 valiant?using original linkage/shifter and drive shaft?thanks in advance

Are you talking about using the original ball and trunion drive shaft or the original one to your car? What's the wheel base of the donar car?

The tranny and shifter is off of a 65 dart. Yes I want to use the original ball and trunion drive shaft. I want to put it in a 67 valiant

Yes, but you may need to shorten the driveshaft, as the Darts have a longer wheelbase than the Valiant.

So I could use it but get the drive shaft shortened? And as speedo goes I can live without knowing my speed lol . It's going on a slant six. So none of the shifting rods won't interfere with the frame? Since its off of an early A going on a later A. Thanks for the input guys!!much appreciated

I found a donor car the whole set up including clutch/fork shifter drive shaft and bellhousing/tranny for 600

You will have to get a different speedometer cable and good luck finding gears.

Since you already have the transmission, hopefully it still had the speedo cable still attached which means it still had the gear (maybe not the correct one for your rear end gears and tire size though). Speedo cables are not common like the 66/67 or 68-up cables but can still be occasionally found (I might have an extra as well as different gears for it).

youll need to extend the driveshaft. The early wheelbase was shorter than a 67 IIRC.

Since everything is coming out of a 65 Dart, that wheelbase was 111 inches (unless it was a wagon then wheelbase was 106 inches. Wasn't the 67 Valiant wheelbase around 108 inches? If so, then it would need to be shortened.

There is so little difference in the mounting pads, I do not think you will notice. You can also swap to the later mounting pad. The rest of the linkage is the same. I prefer the 64 65 Hurst shifter to anything else and use them in any car I get. If the adjusting swivels are rusted stuck, I cut them off to leave the shift rods in tact. The swivels are relatively cheap and easy to get.

as far as bellhousing/ ball stud bracket and torque shaft I can also use the early a stuff? Are all slant 6 torque shafts the same?

Yeah I also like the early hurst shifters...super cool!

I suspect the 67-up is different than the 66-down

Probably use the 67 stuff. The 67 engine compartments are wider.

I've never used the old stuff in a newer car and was not thinking about the linkage. Maybe give Brewer's Performance a call to double check. Looks like you just squeaked by on the flywheel.

I have run a newer O/D in the 64 Barracuda with a 170 /6 and a A/F body newer bellhousing. I don't remember it being hard.

so basically it would be easiest to change the bellhousing and use the 67 and up bellhousing/b-s brackets/torque shaft. as far as tranny and shifter they should work and for the drive shaft it will need to be shortened?

The A833 will only bolt up to a '64-65 slant bell specifically made for the A833.
All other slant bells are 3 speed only until the OD 833 came out. Those bells can work but the bearing retainer is too large for the A833. You can make a spacer ring to adapt the A833 to the OD bell. This excludes the truck bellhousings. They are huge and are an almost impossible fit in a passenger car.

You can buy spacer rings for an automatic (later engine w/ early transmission). Don't know if manuals have the same crank pilot hole diameters.

Rather than modify the existing driveshaft, check ebay for a company that fab's driveshafts to convert Jeeps that came with the same ball & trunion to a sliding yoke. Only $150 and you tell them the length. Haven't heard of an early-A guy using them, but "should work".
