Can I get a few options on affordable piston choices for my 440 build? Mild street engine. 346 heads rebuilt with 3 angle valve job. New exhaust valves/seats. Camshaft in the .480 230@.050 area. Dual plane intake and a 4 speed. Rear end prob 3.55:1 I've heard good things about the six pack (2355 I believe) pistons but I'm open to suggestions. Next step in my build is the block going in to the machine shop and coming out with a balanced rotating assembly. Yeee Haaa!

Ive got the L2335 pistons from Speed pro. Forged and really, for a mostly street engine they give about 10:1 compression roughly. I followed the expert advice of IQ52. Very knowledge, hunt up his pops 440 thread, all you need to know

Thanks dukeboy I will have to look up that thread of IQ52's. 10 to 1 comp sounds great compared to what I originally had.

Thats a great read you recommended dukeboy! I've read that the L2355 piston was/ is offered in a lightweight version... Has anyone checked into them?

A good .904 lifter flat tappet cam in the 230 degree at .050 range should be more like .525 lift, unless you're using marginal springs and rockers, that would be a decent boost in the combo. 4spd, not so much need for a little cam.

The Icon pistons have impressed me in the quality/price metric. S/F....Ken M

I'll take a look at the Icon pistons Mike thanks. I'm planning on using my existing springs (130# closed seat pressure) and stock rockers/shafts. Might go with a lil more cam tho!

My speed pros are forged and a tad lighter than stock ones. I'm not hunting for everyone single horse or rpm so they'll work fine unless you're a dedicated drag engine.

These are the Icons you probably want if you're reconditioning the stock rods. Go with the .990 pins pistons if you're going aftermarket rods, which would be PN IC822, saves you almost 50 gms per pin with the .990 pin.

CNC motorsports seems to have the best online prices, basically $75 more than Speedpro 2355's, IMO the Icon is a better piston, with 1/16" rings instead of 5/64" like the Speedpros. The Icon seems to be over 200gm lighter than the Speedpro 2355, and their 1.094 pin seems heavy as Hell too, over 200gm, with Icon 1.094 pins being 190gm and .990 pins 141 gm. 200 gm lighter per hole is like free money, especially if you're going to be reusing stock rods. I used KB hypers in my 1st engine. Still alive and well over a decade later.

Lots of folks like those KB's. I'm not too sure what that love/hate relationship regarding the "hypereutectic piston" for the streetcar is all about tho. Lots to learn everyday during this build!

They aren't supposed to be very nitrous friendly. I didn't spray the car..so no issues for me.

Running the old sealed power flat tops (heavy) in one engine and it winds quick. I would love to have some Ross or Diamond because they are really light units but Icon's were on sale for almost half the price so I'll give them a try. As pointed out they are still lighter than what I have been running and they have a nice valve relief.

No nitrous in my plans either rocco. Once I get my block to the shop I'll see what I have in there already but they look like they sit VERY low...
